Chapter 48

Volume 2. Game Update in Progress

At that thought, I reached out without hesitation and first grabbed the big guy next to 'Brother Liu'.

The big guy trembled at first, but before he could turn his head, I had already forced the Evil Spirit Form into his body.

Just as I had suspected… although the Evil Spirit Form didn’t fully match this body, it could still be used, albeit awkwardly.

Aside from the arm, the rest of the Evil Spirit Form entered the body.

The lone arm of the Evil Spirit Form, left outside, gripped the soul of the big guy, whose face was full of fear and confusion.

I turned around, didn’t even look at 'Brother Liu', and tossed out a line: “I’ve got a headache, going to the car to rest a bit.” Then I headed straight for the van.

There was a van parked at the intersection.

I had seen it earlier—this was the vehicle that matched the keys in the big guy’s hand.

Just like that, I controlled the big guy’s body and, moving a bit stiffly, approached the van.

I took out the key, unlocked the door, climbed in, and sat down.

Maybe it was because the body wasn’t fully adapted to me, but I felt like it was hard to control—it moved stiffly, and I couldn’t even make facial expressions.

Some of the senses weren’t connecting properly either.

Could it be because I hadn’t eaten the big guy’s soul?

At that thought, I let go of the big guy’s body, letting it slump into the driver’s seat.

Then I turned my head and faced the big guy’s terrified, screaming soul—showing no courtesy.

I wasn’t going to explain anything to this guy.

After all, villains die from talking too much.

Opening my mouth wide, I took the first bite—swallowing his upper body and most of his arm in one go.

This was the first time I had truly tasted another’s soul.

When I ate Fang Zheng, I didn’t have time to savor it.

But now… I once again experienced how incredibly delicious it was, and I could even feel the big guy’s soul struggling and thrashing in my mouth.

He screamed, he fought… but it was all in vain.

I caught the remaining half of his soul and the detached part of his arm, shoved them into my mouth, and chewed bit by bit, quickly reading through his soul.

From his memories, I easily found all the details of this plan.

It seemed… that Manager Liu had prepared quite a lot.

He actually planned that if things didn’t go well, they would silence 'Liu Yunyan' by killing her, and then go to Zhang Yan’s home to kill Zhang Yan too.

Heh… if you enjoy 'playing' that much, I’ll play along.

Floating out of the van, I saw that Manager Liu was wearing a puzzled expression on his face.

Under my control, the big guy silently got into the car, his movements stiff and unnatural.

It was normal for this guy to feel confused, but… more confusion was coming his way.

Without saying a word, I floated to the alley entrance and, using the same method, grabbed another lackey’s soul.

Then I controlled his stiff body and walked into the alley.

“Da Linzi, what are you doing? Weren’t you told to keep watch?”

“I’ve got a headache, going to the car to rest a bit.”

Saying that, I controlled this dull-eyed, stiff-bodied lackey ‘Da Linzi’.

Under 'Brother Liu’s' astonished gaze, 'I' stiffly walked up to the van, opened the door, got in, and shut the door.

On the way down the alley, I had eaten this lackey’s soul too.

Savoring the taste, I once again floated toward the intersection.

As I passed Manager Liu, I even heard him muttering under his breath, “What’s going on? We didn’t even party last night.”

Then I took control of a third lackey.

This time, when 'I' stiffly walked into the alley, Manager Liu was completely stunned.

Even the dumbest person should have realized something was wrong by now!

Big guy, Da Linzi, and now this third lackey I controlled—all had the same blank expressions and stiff movements.

Who knows what Manager Liu was thinking, but sweat started to bead on his forehead.

His voice trembled slightly.

“Wang Ba… you…”

Before he could ask his question, I once again replied with a stiff, emotionless voice.

“I’ve got a headache, going to the car to rest a bit.”

Then I started walking toward the van step by step.

At that moment, I deliberately turned to look at him.

Controlling the lackey named 'Wang Ba', I had his eyes blankly stare at Liu.

The stiff body moved forward, neck twisting with a ‘crack crack’ sound, but the eyes still locked on him.

Anyone would’ve been terrified by that.

And Manager Liu’s face instantly turned pale.

Beads of sweat the size of soybeans streamed down his donkey-like face.

All he could do was stand there, frozen, watching his lackey 'Wang Ba' stiffly walk up to the van.

Then he climbed inside, and before pulling the door shut, he turned to Liu with a… stiff, wide-mouthed grin and soulless eyes.

“I… what the hell~ did I just see a ghost?”

Manager Liu stood dumbfounded in the empty alley.

The setting sun’s rays couldn’t reach in at all.

A cold wind blew, making him instinctively tighten his collar.

He stared at the eerily silent van with a pale face.

What he didn’t know was that the evil spirit who had devoured the souls of his three lackeys…

Was now standing right behind him, wearing a strange smile.

With eyes that looked at him as if staring at an ant, it watched him intently.

“Big Guy!! Da Linzi? Wang Ba??”

Standing in the deserted alley, blocked at both ends by vehicles, Manager Liu’s voice echoed faintly in the not-so-spacious space.

The emptiness of that echo only intensified the sense of isolation in the alley.

Even a villain like Manager Liu couldn’t stop the cold sweat from pouring down his forehead.

Goosebumps rose all over his body.

Whether it was fear turning into rage, or bravado to cover his fear, his pale face gradually flushed with a red tint.

Then came an outburst of fury.

“What the hell are you all doing!!”

Saying this, Manager Liu, seemingly furious, strode to the van.

He yanked open the door violently.

And immediately saw—

The three of them lying crookedly inside the van, drooling uncontrollably from their slack jaws.

“You…”

In that instant, Manager Liu was completely stunned.

If it had only been the three of them stiffly walking into the van, it might still have been a prank.

Or even a hallucination.

But now… how was he supposed to explain this?

The stench of urine wafted from the van.

With their souls gone, their bodies could only perform the most basic physical functions.

They couldn’t even hold it in anymore—every one of them had soiled themselves.

“Big… Big Guy? Da Linzi? Wang Ba? What’s wrong with you guys? Say something! Say something, damn it!!”

A nameless terror instantly consumed all of Manager Liu’s thoughts.

He didn’t know what was happening.

Everything carried an inexplicable sense of horror.

On instinct, he tried to rouse the three of them.

But no matter how loudly he yelled, no one answered.

Finally, it seemed he realized something was terribly wrong.

With trembling hands, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone…

But just at that moment, a piercing cold hit his shoulder, as if it could cut through his bones and freeze his very marrow.

His whole body shuddered uncontrollably.

Then… he suddenly heard a heavy breathing sound.

A sharp, high-pitched yet low and hoarse voice—

Like a man’s and woman’s voices overlapping—

A demonic whisper echoed slowly beside his ear.

“You… saw me, didn’t you?”
