Chapter 75: Second Transfiguration Class
Retracting her gaze from the moonlight, Janna, with her wizard robe's hood pulled up, gradually gathered her thoughts and briskly walked toward her dormitory.
Royal Road
"The more knowledge I gain, the more insignificant I feel..."
Even though she had once glimpsed the divine war in a dream, that realm remained far beyond her current reach.
Regardless of whether the Outer Gods would return, all she could do now was utilize every available resource to strengthen herself.
Only after taking the first step to become a wizard could she consider anything else.
"Ding—"
After closing the dormitory door and finishing her nightly routine, Janna sat cross-legged on her bed as usual.
Just as she was about to enter a meditative state, a chime suddenly echoed in her mind.
"System, Quest Panel."
[Today's Quest: Perform one Low-Rank Transfiguration Spell;
Quest Reward: 100 Talent EXP, 500 Skill EXP, and one random reward.]
"Low-Rank Transfiguration Spell?"
Frowning at the quest panel, Janna removed her pajamas and assumed a casting stance.
"Metamorphosis—"
As she chanted, emerald butterfly wings slowly unfurled behind her. However, to her confusion, even after completing the partial transfiguration, the system did not indicate that the quest was complete.
"It seems the quest requires a full-body transformation."
After the butterfly wings vanished and she changed back into her pajamas, Janna reopened the quest panel.
"The quest text is in white, indicating that the system doesn't consider it particularly difficult... Well, since tomorrow is Transfiguration class, I'll handle it then."
Noting the late hour on the clock, Janna, ever diligent in her meditation, closed the quest panel and began to clear her mind.
"I hope to advance to a First Tier Wizard Apprentice soon..."
As her thoughts gradually deepened, accompanied by steady breathing, the busy day finally gave way to Janna's true "rest" time.
...
The next morning.
As the first rays of sunlight streamed into the dormitory, Janna, who had been meditating all night, finally emerged from her deep trance.
"This morning's Transfiguration class starts at eight... I should head to the cafeteria for breakfast."
Initially planning to grab a piece of honey bread for breakfast, Janna recalled Vivian's message and decided to quickly freshen up.
She donned her wizard robe and, around seven o'clock, headed downstairs to the cafeteria entrance.
"It seems she hasn't arrived yet..."
"Janna—"
Hearing a cheerful voice nearby, Janna couldn't help but smile in response.
"Honestly, I really don't want to eat the cafeteria food... I don't know what the academy was thinking. Even though it was an open bid, why couldn't they choose a Turin cafeteria supplier with better food?"
"Perhaps this cafeteria has lower costs."
As they stepped into the cafeteria, Vivian sniffed the air and immediately determined that today's breakfast consisted of items she disliked.
"If it weren't for the academy being so far from Turin City, I would have moved out long ago..."
Listening to Vivian's complaints, Janna, who was placing tomato noodles on her tray, didn't feel much.
After all, she usually just grabbed a few bites of various breads and didn't demand much from her meals.
"Once you become a wizard, you won't need to rely on food for nutrition anymore. Just through meditation, you can maintain peak physical condition at all times."
"You expect me to stop eating? I can't do that. Even if I become a wizard, I'll still eat all kinds of delicacies every day and even visit the Gourmet Cottage to taste the Gourmet Witches' cuisine."
The Gourmet Cottage was a [Magical Cottage] cultivated by some Gourmet Witches during their travels using magical plant seeds, meant to host guests who happened upon them.
Even though the food was expensive, it remained a rare and sought-after experience for many.
"You'll come with me then."
"If it's the Gourmet Cottage, then no problem."
After a simple breakfast, the two quickly left the cafeteria.
Under Janna's guidance, they secured two front-row seats in the apprentice public classroom on the second floor of the Magic Tower.
"Every time I attend class with you, we never sit at the back... Now, several professors recognize me, making it impossible to skip classes unnoticed."
"You should develop good study habits and not always think about skipping classes. Otherwise, your academic credits will be wasted."
As Vivian mentioned, Janna preferred sitting at the front to increase her presence with the professors.
While maintaining her top-student persona, she also aimed to ensure that professors remembered her quickly.
Of course, this attention didn't matter much to Vivian, who had never lacked resources since childhood.
After all, excelling and being remembered by professors was a bonus. But if one didn't stand out academically, being remembered only added a bit of background impression and didn't offer much benefit.
"Wasted or not, I originally enrolled in [Transfiguration Class] just for fun and to accompany you... Anyway, I'm a First Tier Apprentice with plenty of time. Besides, there are others in the classroom who haven't even grasped the basics..."
"Shh—keep your voice down. Many senior apprentices attend this class."
Upon hearing Janna's reminder, Vivian quickly closed her mouth and glanced around the room.
Seeing that the classroom wasn't crowded yet, she patted her chest in relief.
"Good thing we arrived early. Otherwise, those senior apprentices who haven't mastered the basics might think I'm mocking them..."
Although the academy prohibited apprentices from harming each other, this rule didn't apply to wizard duels.
As a comprehensive academy with both white and black wizards, White Coral Academy inevitably had some black wizard apprentices whose personalities were more extreme due to prolonged exposure to dark attributes.
If one got entangled with such apprentices over a verbal dispute, they might not let go until a few rounds were fought on the wizard duel platform...
As the two chatted quietly, more people filled the classroom.
Soon, all the previously empty seats were occupied by incoming apprentices.
"There are significantly more people this time compared to last time. Moreover, several well-known Third Tier Wizard Apprentices from the academy are here... It seems Professor Lilith Mage's class is indeed popular..."
