Chapter 74: The Power of Laws
Looking at this, Janna’s eyes couldn’t help but brighten slightly.
"Take the [Law of Nature and Life] as an example. As one of the highest-ranking [Primary Laws] of the material world, it is a collection of a series of [Secondary Laws] such as [Nature], [Growth], [Purification], [Withering], [Resurrection]... precisely because of this, the prerequisite for mastering a [Primary Law] is the integration of all its subordinate [Secondary Laws]..."
The author of Secrets of the Laws loved to use examples.
In the following chapters, to help readers better understand, he presented several examples of top-tier wizardes who truly existed in the material world.
For instance, the "Lord of the Ocean" condensed the [Primary Law] of [Calamity and Ocean] in one go by comprehending over ten [Secondary Laws], including [Dew], [Stream], [River], [Flood], [Storm]...
Moreover, top-tier [Primary Laws] such as the [Law of Earth], [Law of Sky], and [Law of Death] were constructed from countless [Secondary Laws]. So far, no wizard had managed to comprehend them as the "Lord of the Ocean" had.
Rustle—
The sound of pages turning echoed continuously through the library.
As the night deepened, the number of people inside gradually dwindled.
"So the [Law of Growth] is a subordinate [Secondary Law] under the [Law of Nature and Life]..."
Recalling the divine battlefield scene she had glimpsed in her dream, Janna couldn’t help but form a few guesses in her mind.
"Since the fragment of the [Law of Growth] is with me, it means that no one currently holds the [Law of Nature and Life] in the material world. But what about before? The one who sacrificed themselves in the divine war—were they the previous wielder of the [Law of Nature and Life]?"
Within five hours, Janna used her [Exceptional Memory] talent to quickly memorize all the unique content in Secrets of the Laws that differed from Insight into the Laws. However, after flipping through the entire book, aside from the small section at the beginning, there was no further mention of the [Law of Nature and Life].
Instead, it detailed many popular [Elemental Secondary Laws] such as [Heat], [Frost], [Shadow], and [Hurricane].
"I wonder if the library has any books specifically about the [Law of Nature and Life]. If there are, they would be very important for the path I plan to take as a wizard..."
Snap—
She closed the book.
With five minutes left before her rental expired, Janna returned Secrets of the Laws to its original shelf and then retrieved her deposit of one Gold Surrel from the librarian.
"I'm heading out, Senior Gawen."
"Alright… if you can’t find a book next time, feel free to ask me. I know the location of every single one."
"Then I’ll be sure to trouble you next time."
"No problem."
Gawen-Tull, a third-year apprentice with thick glasses and slightly protruding teeth, had a gentle temperament. However, behind that mild demeanor was a third-tier wizard apprentice with a solid B-level [Curse] talent.
Although the [Curse] talent wasn’t suited for direct combat, its eerie and unpredictable ritual magic and devastating, hard-to-guard-against effects weren’t something ordinary apprentices could withstand.
"Ritual witchcraft consumes a lot of casting materials. With just a librarian's income, it’s unlikely she could advance to a third-tier apprentice… maybe she has another job."
Curious as she was, Janna wouldn’t actively approach a Curse-specialized apprentice whose background was unclear, no matter how friendly she seemed.
After all, this talent was best suited for assassination-type missions.
It left no traces at the scene and could be cast remotely through a medium, making it difficult to track the caster’s location or identity.
Of course, ritual witchcraft was also the easiest to suffer backlash from. If one wasn’t careful, the curse intended for another could be "reflected" during the casting process, turning it into a death sentence for the caster instead.
Gathering the long hair behind her, Janna stepped out of the library.
She looked up at the moon hanging high in the night sky.
For some reason, she was briefly entranced.
"Is it the same moon?"
Her steps paused for just a moment before she shook her head.
In the world of wizardes, everything stemmed from laws.
Whether the stars scattered across the sky or the waxing and waning moon, they were simply visible representations of laws supplementing the material plane. But the vast energy contained within these laws was constantly being spied upon by forces from beyond...
Coveting the world.
Polluting the laws.
Even the [Sun], one of the [Primary Laws], was tainted by the Outer Evil God [Darksun], causing the [Wizard's Will] that originally protected the wizard world to suffer a severe blow and be forced into passive slumber.
As a result, the [Wizards]—a group always protected by the [Wizard's Will]—became prime targets for elimination by the Outer Gods.
Natural disasters, plagues, corruption, and aberrations—like apocalyptic carnage—exploded across the wizard world in bursts of blood-red fireworks, spreading blades of slaughter to eradicate all.
Unfortunately for those foreign wills, they never expected that compared to their cruelty, the [Wizards] were even more insane.
They not only captured so-called “Divine Descendants” for dissection and research, but also, while joining forces to establish wizard settlements to resist the corruption, managed to leap beyond the [Wizard’s Will] through their exceptional pursuit of knowledge—comprehending the very laws of the material world.
From that moment on, [Wizards] were no longer merely [Extraordinary Beings].
They evolved into wielders of [Laws], holders of [Authority], and from pawns into players capable of confronting Outer Evil Gods directly.
It was also then that the laws no longer seemed out of reach to the eyes of wizards.
And those who mastered the [Laws] truly replaced the [Wizard’s Will] as the guardians of the wizard world.
They repaired the laws, eradicated the apostles, and repelled the Outer Gods.
Even though this counter-invasion war had not yet achieved a complete victory to this day, it brought the hope of survival and firm belief in victory to all living beings in the wizard world.
For this reason, once wizard settlements reached a certain scale, major wizard academies were founded under the tilt of resources.
And the purpose of founding the academies wasn’t just to nurture a group of knowledge-seeking wizard apprentices.
More importantly, it was to cultivate true [wizards] capable of comprehending the power of laws and repairing the fractured laws of the wizard world—that was the purest original intention of every major wizard academy...
