Chapter 27

Chapter 27: Butterfly Wing Metamorphosis

After a simple process of elimination, Janna found that her current situation was only suited for the fourth method.

After all, being able to indirectly gain the ability to fly through Transfiguration also fell under the category of the fourth method.

Though this method might seem simple for Janna, in the eyes of other apprentices, it was arguably the most difficult one.

“Infinite changes!”

With the incantation complete, two slender, pale green antennae slowly extended from the center of Janna’s forehead. Her originally black-and-white eyes gradually darkened. Yet, in less than an instant, Janna reverted to her original appearance.

“Failed again…”

In less than two seconds, Janna felt a significant depletion of magic power within her body and had no choice but to terminate the transformation.

“Could it be that the simulated form must also be aligned with my innate attributes?”

Recalling Grace Eva’s words once more, Janna frowned deeply.

“Professor Grace said that to reduce the rapid loss of magic power, one could choose to simulate a form with the same attribute during the early stage of transformation.”

“And the failure in simulating the insect characteristics of the Thornflower Sprite shows that I didn’t fully understand what Professor Grace meant.”

“Does that mean I can only simulate the plant traits of the Thornflower Sprite?”

At this thought, Janna’s expression darkened.

“Infinite changes!”

The incantation was chanted again.

This time, Janna’s legs were gradually enveloped by a massive deep pink flower bud. A heavy sense of constraint came from her legs as the transformation succeeded.

“The magic consumption has indeed decreased significantly… Looks like this green-tier quest is going to end in failure after all.”

Dissolving the flower bud transformation on her lower body, Janna redirected her spirit power to her pupils, closely observing the butterfly wings on the Thornflower Sprite’s back.

“Although the Thornflower Sprite has insect traits, her bloodline is that of an exceptionally pure plant elemental spirit. Logically, even if insect traits appear, they are just plant-based mutations…”

Unwilling to give up, Janna continued to force herself to analyze the physical structure of the Thornflower Sprite.

After several rounds of close observation, and with her spirit power maintained at a high level for an extended period, she suddenly had a breakthrough.

“As I suspected, whether it’s the compound eyes or the wings on her back, they’re actually extensions of a plant-based lifeform… In essence, they are still plant-elemental life.”

The reason why Janna failed during her earlier attempts to simulate the antennae and compound eyes was because her subconscious mind had swapped the simulation target to a ‘butterfly-form’ lifeform during her mental suggestion—this was not a true transformation of the Thornflower Sprite.

“The antennae and compound eyes, which represent sensory ability, are essentially simulations by plant photoreceptor cells of insect lifeforms. The butterfly wings that grant flight, in truth, are leaves extended from flower buds… Which means, the Thornflower Sprite who embodies insect life traits is actually a master of both Transfiguration and Mutation studies.”

Huu——

Taking a deep breath to clear her thoughts, Janna slowly closed her eyes.

As she chanted the incantation, she deepened the mental suggestion within herself.

“Infinite changes!”

At this moment, as the spell completed, Janna felt as if she were personally experiencing the Thornflower Sprite’s evolution from plant traits into an insectoid form.

With the Level 19 local transformation ability activating, four leaf-shaped wings directly tore through her wizard robe and extended from her back.

Next, under Janna’s deliberate control, the leaf shapes began to shift.

The four fan-shaped green leaves gradually expanded, becoming covered in fine scales with clearly defined patterns.

In just a few breaths, a pair of butterfly wings in a gradient of green and emerald slowly unfurled behind her.

“Flap—”

Seeing the emerald-green butterfly wings behind her fluttering unconsciously, Janna, who had repeatedly experienced failure in her transformations, finally smiled with satisfaction.

“Finally succeeded!”

Flap—

The dormitory was small, but the ceiling was reasonably high.

In her first attempt at flight, Janna didn’t rush to break through the window.

Instead, she followed the roofline of the dorm, slowly and at a high frequency, flapping her wings.

“As expected, in the early stage of transformation, as long as the magic attribute is aligned, the internal magic consumption rate drops significantly… Judging by the current consumption rate, maintaining the transformation for about half an hour shouldn’t be a problem.”

Of course, this duration was based on Janna’s current magic level as a Level 1 apprentice. If she advanced to Level 2, the duration would increase further.

“Quest Panel.”

【Today’s Quest: Master a flight-type witchcraft (Completed);

Quest Reward: 300 Talent EXP, 800 Skill EXP, Charisma +0.3】

“So the stat increase from this green-tier quest is… Charisma?”

【Name: Janna Roland

Class: Level 1 Wizard Apprentice

Class Level: 9

Wizard Talents: Soul Projection (B-level – 80% progress), Plant Affinity (B-level – 5% progress)

Wizard Skills: …

Wizard Tricks: …

Constitution: 5.5

Spirit Power: 17.4

Strength: 5.3

Agility: 5.8

Perception: 6.7

Charisma: 9.9 (+0.3)

Comprehension: 10.7

Luck: 7.5】

Seeing the Charisma stat now at 9.9 on her Character Panel, a complex emotion flickered in Janna’s eyes…

【10 points】 had always been the dividing line between the mundane and the extraordinary.

Whether it was the initial Spirit Power that measured wizard talent, or the Comprehension stat that had exceeded 【10 points】 a few months ago, both had clearly shown Janna the distinct difference between the two realms.

Take Comprehension for instance—before it surpassed 10 points, Janna had been able to quickly grasp new material in both apprentice classes and spell studies within a short time.

Even for challenging courses like 《Mykethan》 and 《Contract Studies》, she had made considerable progress within less than a week.

After her Comprehension exceeded 10 points, Janna’s already sharp mind felt as though it had undergone another purification.

Not only did her understanding ability soar, she could also swiftly detect subtle details that others would easily overlook.

Courses that used to take a week to learn could now be completed in a morning—or even just a few hours.

For example, Professor Lilith Mage’s Transfiguration class, notoriously known as one of the hardest to begin among occult subjects, was still easily mastered by Janna, thanks to her now extraordinary Comprehension.

“Once my Charisma surpasses 10 points, it’s bound to trigger some kind of supernatural transformation too. This kind of change feels more akin to the ‘supernatural attributes’ defined in the field of mysticism. Among the notable supernatural beings, the most famous would be the Abyssal Succubus, renowned for their extraordinary Charisma…”
