Chapter 94: What Exactly Did Gu Ke's Dad Want to Say?
“Miss.”
Seeing the two girls drifting further and further off-topic—almost forgetting their original purpose—the attendant girl finally couldn’t hold back.
If she didn’t speak up now, their conversation might just spiral to the ends of the earth.
She bent down and brought her lips to Gu Ke’s ear, softly reminding her.
“Don’t forget the message Master asked you to pass along.”
“Oh, oh, oh!”
Gu Ke smacked her own forehead.
Without the attendant’s reminder, she really would’ve forgotten.
She turned to Yi Ning.
“Right, I still haven’t told you what my dad wanted me to say.”
“What did your dad say?”
“It’s about that…”
Before Gu Ke could finish her sentence, a melody interrupted her.
“Ding-ling-ling...”
All three of them immediately turned to look at Yi Ning’s pocket.
Yi Ning rolled her eyes and helplessly pulled out the ringing phone.
She glanced at the screen—it was a call from Lu Zheng.
Yi Ning tilted her head, momentarily puzzled as to why that guy was calling her now.
Then after a couple of seconds, she recalled that she had seen Lu Zheng at her base just before leaving—he had probably forgotten something there.
But since Lu Zheng hadn’t helped her clean up, she’d deliberately ignored him, pretending not to be home while he rang her doorbell.
This call was probably about that.
After a brief pause, Yi Ning decisively hit the reject button.
Everyone knew—Yi Ning held grudges.
So, no~
Let Lu Zheng keep waiting outside the door!
She put her phone back into her pocket and waved at Gu Ke.
“Don’t mind that, go on.”
“My dad wanted to talk to you because…”
“Ding-dong!”
Unfortunately.
Gu Ke still didn’t get to finish.
Before she could even get a few words out, Yi Ning’s phone rang again.
Yi Ning rolled her eyes once more and fished out the phone.
It was Lu Zheng again.
Perhaps since Yi Ning had rejected his call, he assumed she was reporting today’s evil operation to the organization. So instead of calling again, he sent her a text.
Though, he probably hadn’t expected that Yi Ning never turned her phone to silent during meetings.
Yi Ning unlocked the screen and opened Lu Zheng’s message.
“Yi Ning, I need to go inside your base for something. Can you help me open the door? Please give me a call when you’re free.”
Just as she’d expected—asking her to open the door.
Yi Ning sighed and stuffed the phone back into her pocket.
Still not helping!
She looked back at Gu Ke and the attendant.
“Go on.”
“So I can keep going now?”
Gu Ke blinked and glanced toward Yi Ning’s pocket, as if asking about the phone.
“Go ahead, no more calls.”
Yi Ning promised helplessly.
“My dad wants to talk to you because…”
This time, before Yi Ning’s phone could even ring again, Gu Ke paused on her own.
Yi Ning, fully focused and prepared to hear her new assignment, was left annoyed by the abrupt stop.
“What, are you playing mind games now?”
“No!”
Gu Ke shook her head.
“I’m worried your phone will play mind games with me.”
“How about you go settle your end first—we’re not in a hurry.”
“……”
Looking at the two grinning faces on the screen, Yi Ning pulled out her phone.
“Fine.”
She leaned back on the sofa, propped her legs on the coffee table, and called Lu Zheng right in front of them.
With no one else around, she got a little casual.
The moment she dialed, Lu Zheng picked up.
“Are you done over there?”
Lu Zheng asked immediately.
After all, the call had come way too quickly—he had only sent the message less than a minute ago.
“Nope.”
Yi Ning answered truthfully.
“Your call and message both came right when the boss was talking. She didn’t want to get cut off again, so she told me to deal with your stuff first.”
Her reply was so honest that Lu Zheng paused for a second.
“Sorry…”
After a few seconds, he finally apologized.
“No biggie.”
Yi Ning waved at him through the air, then flopped back onto the couch.
“So, what do you want?”
She asked, pretending not to know.
“Uh…”
Lu Zheng hesitated for a couple of seconds, sounding a bit awkward.
“I was hoping you could help me out—come back to your base and open the door. I’m kind of…”
After drawing the unfortunate ability “Free Running,” Lu Zheng had crawled all over Yi Ning’s base, checking every inch outside. But not only was there no heavenly hatch, he hadn’t even found a usable chimney.
With no options, he pulled tools from his car trunk, hoping his amateur lock-picking skills from school days might help.
But when he reached the door, he realized—Yi Ning’s base didn’t even have a keyhole.
With no other choice, he tried prying the door open with a crowbar.
He ended up bending the crowbar without so much as opening a crack.
He even searched the surrounding jungle for a secret entrance—
But the reason it’s called a secret passage is because it’s secret.
Without eagle vision, how could Lu Zheng possibly find the hidden entrance?
After exhausting every method he could think of, Lu Zheng finally resorted to calling Yi Ning, hoping she’d come open the door.
Otherwise, he’d be stuck with the “Free Running” ability until the next day when he could see Yi Ning.
He still had night duty, and if something went wrong, what was he supposed to do—parkour at the Freedom Alliance guy?
His skill didn’t include an E key tackle function.
Unfortunately, before he could finish his explanation—
Yi Ning flatly rejected him.
“Nope!”
She had somehow shifted her entire body onto the sofa.
Legs crossed, toes swaying—
A smugly curled smile at the corner of her lips betrayed her very good mood.
“…Why not?”
Lu Zheng was confused.
He began reviewing past events, wondering what had upset Yi Ning.
Was it because he sneakily sniffed her scent?
Or because he mocked her flat chest?
Or maybe it was when he smashed her four expensive cameras?
…
As he recalled more of his own behavior, Lu Zheng started to get a bad feeling.
What was going on?
Why did it seem like he was constantly making Yi Ning mad?
