Chapter 89: Just a Little Dress? I Can Wear It Too!
Yi Ning had always thought her adaptability was at a genius level.
She could wear girls’ clothes (albeit gender-neutral styles) on the very day she transformed.
Within days of her transformation, she had conquered her shame enough to wear undergarments (at least the upper half).
She could even use her new identity as a girl to toy with her archenemy superhero.
By all accounts, she ought to be at the forefront of the strength rankings, right?
But now she had to admit—she wasn’t adapting as quickly as the other two.
Did those two not have any shame as men?
Maybe they were into cross-dressing to begin with.
Yi Ning muttered complaints inwardly.
Her competitive spirit flared up.
Just a cute little dress?
She was the greatest evil scientist of the century! A mere little dress couldn’t stop her!
Yi Ning silently made a vow.
Tonight, she was going shopping for some cute little dresses!
Shame? She’d overcome it with sheer willpower!
Meanwhile…
Gu Ke hadn’t noticed Yi Ning burning up with silent determination.
She simply looked down at the frilly dress she wore, expression tinged with faint sorrow.
She didn’t want to wear this stuff either!
But any protest she raised was no match for the enthusiasm of her mother.
Gu Ke sighed and tried to explain to Yi Ning: “It was my mo—”
“Ahem.”
Before she could finish, the maid beside her lightly cleared her throat, interrupting her.
“Tch!”
Annoyed at the reminder, Gu Ke clicked her tongue.
She took a deep breath, then, in the most sickly sweet tone possible, unleashed a wave of pure passive aggression.
“My dearest mother bought it for me~”
She deliberately stressed “dearest,” and rolled her eyes dramatically at “mother.”
Unfortunately, this kind of sarcasm was lost on the maid, who continued to smile pleasantly, pretending not to notice a thing.
Gu Ke realized she wasn’t going to win this battle and turned the focus back to Yi Ning.
“Another failed evil plan today?”
She leaned her elbow on the chair’s armrest, propping her cheek with her hand, looking bored.
“Yes, indeed~”
Yi Ning beamed right back at her.
Earlier, she’d felt a twinge of inferiority at how well Gu Ke was adapting compared to herself—but hearing Gu Ke’s explanation, that feeling instantly vanished.
So it was her mom who forced her into the dress.
That meant Yi Ning wasn’t lagging in adaptability at all.
Her smile grew even wider.
As envious as she might have been, she now felt an overwhelming sense of schadenfreude at Gu Ke’s predicament.
She knew all too well the shame of wearing a skirt.
The thin, airy fabric that made her thighs feel cold.
The way the hem flared with every breeze, the constant threat of flashing someone if she bent down...
For girls like them—who were new to this—wearing a skirt was an ordeal.
Gu Ke idly twisted a lock of hair around her finger, unaware that her so-called friend was taking such delight in her misery.
Seeing Yi Ning grinning without a shred of sympathy, Gu Ke sighed in exasperation.
Honestly, you're a proper evil scientist—don’t look so smug over my misfortune!
“If I didn’t know your personality so well, you’d definitely have been fired from any other evil organization for acting like this.”
“At least pretend you have ambition to conquer the world.”
She rolled her eyes.
“But then again, maybe the Hero Association would suit you better.”
Gu Ke calmly dropped a bomb.
“I am working hard, okay?”
“It’s not my fault! The Hero Association is just too cunning!”
Yi Ning firmly denied any responsibility.
No matter what you say, it’s not my fault.
Still, she was a bit concerned about Gu Ke’s statement.
“Is it really okay to say that?”
Saying she'd be better off in the Hero Association?
That could be twisted into a betrayal of the Evil Council.
Even if Gu Ke was the daughter of the Evil Council’s founder, accusations like that could land her in serious trouble.
Yi Ning didn’t know much about Gu Ke’s father, but she remembered he was a very stern man—someone who wouldn’t tolerate special treatment, even for his own children.
Especially not if it looked like betrayal.
Even if he didn’t believe she’d truly defected, appearances alone might force him to take action.
But Gu Ke didn’t seem the least bit worried.
“You don’t think anyone would dare monitor my communications, do you?”
She dropped the hair she was twirling and rested both hands on her armrests, lifting her chin haughtily.
Seriously?
Yi Ning could hardly believe Gu Ke’s arrogance.
But it did reveal just how spoiled she was at home.
Her father might look stern and strict—but clearly, when it came to Gu Ke, he was all indulgence.
Yi Ning clapped her hands and gave a mock-congratulatory smirk.
“As expected of Miss Gu Ke.”
Though she said it with a grin, her gaze drifted to the maid standing beside Gu Ke.
Noticing the look, the maid explained:
“I’m only here to shield Miss from any threats and correct her way of addressing Madam.”
Shield?
Yi Ning didn’t quite get it.
Then she recalled what Xia An and Ji Ping had said earlier:
Because they feared Yi Ning might try to turn Gu Ke back into a man, she’d been designated a level-one threat, forbidden from coming within thirty meters of Gu Ke.
Yi Ning had thought they were joking.
Apparently not.
No wonder Gu Ke was sitting so far away!
Yi Ning pouted.
“Relax. I’m not that tactless. I wouldn’t randomly use the Super Invincible Girlification Machine to turn Boss back.”
Then she added:
“Unless she asked for it.”
Even so, the maid continued standing firmly between them, ready to throw herself in front of Gu Ke if needed.
Clearly, regardless of Gu Ke’s personal feelings, her family had no plans to let her revert.
What a situation...
Yi Ning sighed and looked at Gu Ke, offering her a little silent sympathy.
