Chapter 12
A lecture room with a large cross at the center of the wall.
The place resembled a cathedral, with stained glass windows.
This was the location for the final class of the day, <Understanding of Holy Power>. Four statues stood in a row around the podium.
“Hello, little lambs.”
A nun with short, golden hair walked in through the front door.
Click, click. The sound of her footsteps was steady. She was wearing shoes.
“I’m Beatrice. I’ll be teaching you Holy Power Studies for the first time.”
Another new face. Although her eyes were narrowed and I couldn’t tell their color,
She was wearing a black habit, so she definitely wasn’t the person I was looking for. Does that mean she’s not here in the academy?
‘I thought I’d be able to find her if I took this class.’
I glanced around. As expected, there was no one with wolf ears.
Around me were only the oblivious hero, a tsundere elf, and a reticent glass knight.
The crown prince does have wolf ears, but from what I remember in my game, that’s a common trait among the beastkin.
..Anyway, it’s definitely not him. Not even if I’m dead wrong.
“..What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
Man, his instincts are sharp.
He turned to look at me immediately even though I’d only glanced at him for a moment. It must be in his bloodline from the Ten Greats.
“Little lambs, what do you think the power of the divine is?”
“Isn’t it the power of faith in God? Like Tardun or.. Akasa?”
Ariel answered boldly, but the nun with the narrowed eyes didn’t even flinch.
“That is incorrect. Let me show you an example.”
Immediately after, the professor brought something out from behind. A moving creature the size of a watermelon.
‘Oh, that’s…’
I had a strange feeling and leaned forward.
“..It’s a fox slime?”
“Why did she suddenly bring out a 1-star monster?”
“That’s odd.”
What does a monster have to do with a class on holy power? The four of us all sensed that something was wrong. The slime in the nun’s arms was smiling with its eyes curved.
‘The mascot of <Knight Heart Trilogy>.’
A slime with fox ears and a tail. A monster that loves people and doesn’t harm anyone. A cute, fox-like creature with a variety of expressions.
It was one of the Nameless Saintess’s favorites.
After placing the slime far away, she walked back to the podium.
“Divine power doesn’t come from believing in God. Otherwise, this wouldn’t be possible.”
A glowing bow and arrow appeared in Beatrice’s hand, and she aimed it at the fox slime placed far away.
A pitiful monster trembling all over. Her behavior was unthinkable for a professor, and I felt my breath catch.
“Huh..?”
“What is that? Licht, what am I looking at?”
“Ha. Really..”
“What’s going on? That.. She’s not really going to shoot it, is she?”
The restless atmosphere of the classroom and the chilling air made everyone shiver.
In the sudden, tense situation, memories from the past flashed through my mind.
[Did you know? Fox slimes fear being attacked by humans the most. They’re so cute, it’s really sad.]
I remembered her words when I gave her a large fox slime doll as a gift. I felt a discomforting sensation.
‘Damn it.’
Not all monsters in this game were evil. The Platinum Wolf had said so.
My body moved on its own.
Third Form.
Wing Flare.
I leapt out and deflected the arrow of holy power. The light-infused projectile dug into the ground, and something strange tingled at my fingertips as I watched the scene.
“Oh my, this is unexpected. I didn’t think four students would step in. This year’s freshmen seem quite promising.”
As if she never intended harm, Beatrice smiled faintly.
“There are training slimes, aren’t there, Professor?”
Lowering my sword, I asked in confusion. The force of the impact was weaker than expected. As if she had aimed right in front of the slime.
She seemed to have anticipated this would happen.
“Of course. But I wanted to see your humanity.”
Unbelievable. So she did all this just for that? This is why you can’t trust characters with their eyes closed.
Wait, did she say four people?
‘..? Why is there a glass wall in front of me?’
