Chapter 38

Mother also noticed their situation. She wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes and turned to cling to Su Fulin’s arm.

“She’s really Su Yun?” Wang Haiyan’s voice still carried the tremble of sobs, clearly not yet out of her sorrow.

Su Fulin hesitated for a moment, then nodded to Wang Haiyan.

“How is that possible! Su Yun is a boy!” The next second, Wang Haiyan shoved Su Fulin away, clearly not believing a word of it.

Earlier, when Su Yun and Father were talking, Mother had been crying and muttering to herself like she’d gone a little dumb, not really taking in anything they said.

Wang Haiyan sat beside this white-haired girl, her red-rimmed eyes staring straight at her like she was trying to find something.

Su Yun looked at her mother’s reddened eyes and felt awful inside.

“You’re really Su Yun?”

Faced with another round of questioning, Su Yun firmly nodded.

“Mm.”

Then her mother leaned close to her ear.

“Then let me ask you, how much money was in that fixed deposit we made at the bank?” Her mother’s voice was very low—so low that only Su Yun could hear it.

“200,000.” Su Yun answered softly and helplessly.

Right after she said that, she saw her mother’s eyes widen in shock.

That deposit was something Mom had secretly saved behind Dad’s back, in case of illness or for Su Yun’s wedding in the future.

Every time Dad asked about money, Mom would say they didn’t have any, to motivate him to keep working overtime.

Heh… honestly, this really was…

“How do you even know that? You’re really Su Yun?” Wang Haiyan got up from the bed, stood straight, and looked at the girl in front of her, completely in disbelief.

“You didn’t hide my baby somewhere, did you?” Then she began searching all over the room.

Su Yun didn’t mind. If Mom wasn’t at ease, let her search.

But very soon, she saw that Mom was heading toward the wardrobe and reaching to open it.

Inside—was a pile of girl’s clothes!

“Wait, don’t—” Su Yun tried to stop her, but Mom had already opened the wardrobe.

“Why are there skirts here? My baby doesn’t wear skirts.”

“Wow, it’s all this kind of stuff…” Flipping roughly through the wardrobe, Wang Haiyan was clearly getting anxious again.

“These were bought for me by someone else...” Su Yun immediately pulled out her phone and showed her the chat history with Qin Xue.

Su Fulin came over first. He saw that this person kept transferring money to his daughter.

“She’s my boss. She bought them for me.”

Su Fulin carefully looked at the transfer records, and sure enough saw the one for 100,000 yuan—though it hadn’t been accepted.

“That 100,000 wasn’t accepted because it felt like too much. I didn’t really do anything, felt embarrassed to take it...” Su Yun quickly explained when she saw her father noticing.

But Su Fulin just shook his head at her.

“I really am Su Yun.” Seeing the disbelief on her father’s face, Su Yun started to feel desperate. Her hand holding the phone was going soft.

“I know you’re Su Yun. No need to explain anymore.” Su Fulin pulled Wang Haiyan, who was still rummaging through clothes, back.

“You didn’t notice? These past few days when we’ve been talking on the phone, it’s always been this voice—except that one time Su Yun said he had a sore throat.” He was speaking to Wang Haiyan.

The timing matched what Su Yun had said—it was indeed last Sunday.

“Ohh…” Wang Haiyan looked like she’d just realized something. Then she found some of the old clothes Su Yun used to wear.

The wardrobe had both neatly folded men’s clothes and women’s clothes. That only meant two possibilities: either a couple was living together—or one person was wearing both kinds.

Which fit Su Yun’s current situation exactly.

After a moment of silence, both parents finally believed Su Yun’s story.

“Are you feeling unwell? Want to go to the hospital?” Su Fulin brought the conversation back.

“No. I said that just to get you to come.”

Hearing that, Su Fulin relaxed a little. But then he suddenly thought of a serious problem.

“Now that you’ve become like this, your ID card won’t work anymore, right?” He furrowed his brow and cautiously looked at Su Yun.

After confirming this was truly his “son,” Su Fulin actually didn’t dare to look directly anymore—

Because just now, he had nearly hit his precious son—

No, daughter.

“Mm. I asked you here because of this. The landlady needs to register me. I can’t use my ID anymore.”

“Registration is easy, just use mine. But in the future, for other things, you’ll need your own.” Su Fulin took a deep breath, his fingers tightly interlaced as he began thinking of solutions.

To get a new ID card, they’d have to go back to her birthplace—back home.

“You two keep chatting. I’m going to buy something for my baby.” Wang Haiyan said mysteriously. Even though her eyes were still red, her tone had become cheerful again.

Su Yun gave her the key and the yellow entry card.

Then only she and her father were left in the room.

Father kept his head down, like he was deep in thought.

“Su Yun, are you really not feeling unwell? You don’t need a hospital?” He’d asked that who knows how many times now.

“I’m really fine. Even healthier than before.” Su Yun patiently reassured him again.

“Then give me the landlady’s number. I’ll call her.”

“Okay.”

Then Father called the landlady.

It took a while before the other side answered—the background noise was loud. Clearly, she was still at the hospital.

Just as Su Yun was about to ask about that girl’s condition, Father ended the call.

The landlady said they only needed to send his phone number and the back of his ID card via WeChat.

Rental registration—easily resolved.

......

“Baby, look what I got for you! Do you know how to use it? Want me to teach you?” Almost half an hour later, Wang Haiyan returned, holding two big shopping bags.

“What nonsense did you go buy, so much stuff?” Su Fulin glanced curiously at the overflowing bags, but the next second, Wang Haiyan pushed him aside.

“You’re a man, what are you looking at? Get out. I have something to say to my baby.”

Then Su Yun saw her mother push her father out of the room. Father still looked reluctant to leave, turning back to look at her again and again.

Next, Mother opened the bag and took something out—and that’s when Su Yun finally realized what it was.

She’d seen that kind of packaging at the school convenience store many times before. While it was easy to mistake it for tissues, Su Yun was smart and had never bought the wrong thing.

“...” The smile on Su Yun’s face froze instantly. She stared blankly as her mother pulled out a pack.

“Baby, go to the bathroom.” Wang Haiyan was still smiling, dragging Su Yun toward the bathroom in the bedroom.

To make it easier to demonstrate, Mom even took out a pair of her previously worn black underwear.

And so, Su Yun watched with her own eyes as something she used to wear as a guy merged with those two little wings.

The scene—could not have been more eye-searing.

Su Yun bit her lower lip, feeling like she was about to explode.
