Chapter 107

It was so noisy here, and with nothing else to do, playing a game didn’t seem like a bad idea.

But Su Yun hadn’t touched any games in a long time, so when she finally did, she ended up playing mid lane and went 0–7. The enemy jungler kept targeting her, and she practically handed over the entire team’s kills.

“It's been too long... I'm really rusty,” Su Yun murmured, lowering her head in embarrassment. Her long white hair fell over her face, hiding her expression.

Seeing how serious her cousin had been about ranks earlier, she figured he probably cared a lot. No doubt she was dragging him down.

(Mid lane, what the hell are you doing? Delete the game already. Shouldn’t you elementary school kids be studying or something?)

Her poor performance quickly drew fire from teammates. Some even started insulting her parents.

Su Yun didn’t say a word. She simply muted their mics.

Arguing with people like that was a waste of energy.

“What about you? You can’t talk either—look at how trash you're playing.”

Suddenly, another loud voice came from beside her. Su Yun blinked. Her cousin was now fully engaged in a shouting match with someone in the game.

“@#*!”

“You’re only alive because birth control failed,” he snapped furiously.

At this point, the match didn’t matter anymore. Her cousin’s only goal was to completely tilt the other guy.

Su Yun didn’t dare say anything. She just focused on playing properly.

She knew she was the worst one in the match, but her cousin still stood up for her. Maybe that’s just what family was.

In the end, her foul-mouthed cousin successfully enraged the other player, who rage quit and went AFK.

“That guy… Sorry, I’m not very good. I’ll stop playing.”

When the match ended, Su Yun just wanted to quietly slip away. Her score was about the same as the guy who rage quit.

“It’s fine. I didn’t play great either,” her cousin said. Even though he lost rank, his tone was surprisingly cheerful. He was even smiling.

“We should probably get going anyway. No time for another match…”

“Yeah, sure. Next time you want to play, let me know. It's more fun with two people,” he said, then quickly walked off.

Su Yun remained seated on the metal bench.

For some reason, she felt like her cousin was being unusually warm toward her. Not just his actions, but his tone too.

“Baby, come in for a second.”

Just then, Wang Haiyan stepped out of the chief’s office and called her in.

Su Yun didn’t hesitate. She picked up her phone and walked over.

Had they come to a conclusion?

As soon as she walked in, she noticed nearly ten pairs of eyes fixed on her.

Everyone had gone quiet for once.

“Fulin, take your daughter to a hospital for a gender check-up sometime in the next few days. Get an official report that proves she’s female.”

“You’ll need to go to a major provincial hospital. Reports from small clinics won’t count.”

The police chief was the one speaking, explaining to Su Yun and her parents what documents they still needed to provide.

The law allowed some flexibility based on local customs. The chief had already reported Su Yun’s special case to higher-ups, and they had agreed to waive the transgender certification requirement. But there were still other necessary documents to prepare.

Most important of all was a hospital-issued gender confirmation report from a provincial hospital.

But with how Su Yun looked now, getting that kind of check-up would be… awkward, to say the least.

“Alright. Thank you.”

Su Fulin nodded, grateful.

He’d been running around non-stop these past three days and now just wanted to lie down and rest. This outcome was already better than expected.

Su Yun and Wang Haiyan both offered their thanks as well.

With the formalities out of the way, everyone sat back down and started chatting casually. They still had dinner plans later that evening.

“Trouble just keeps coming. Couldn’t find the last suspect, and now another pops up. Damn bastards, can’t live peacefully like normal people.”

The police chief was clearly the most bitter of them all.

Su Yun could hear the hatred in his voice—he really wanted to kill those fugitives himself.

But the surveillance coverage in this area was sparse, with few witnesses. They had been searching around the clock but still hadn’t caught anyone. They’d even asked nearby regions for help.

“Hey, Fulin, you’ve got two daughters at home, right? Better be careful.”

“There’s a new case—someone knocked on the door, and when it opened, he went in and attacked the woman inside.”

“It’s happened before too. That guy was caught and is still in prison, but now it’s happening again…”

“Oh, we’re usually at home, so it’s fine,” Su Fulin replied with a nod.

After cursing out those sick bastards, the group quickly moved on to other topics. No one paid much attention.

“Hmm?!”

But Su Yun, sitting off to the side, suddenly felt something was wrong.

Wasn’t Qin Xue home alone today?

She immediately grew anxious and pulled out her phone.

“Baby, listen up and pay attention,” Wang Haiyan whispered beside her, trying to nudge her into putting the phone away.

They were all sitting on couches, gathered around to talk. From their perspective, Su Yun pulling out her phone in the middle of the conversation looked rude.

After all, these people had just helped her. She needed to show at least a little respect.

“Qin Xue is still at home.”

But Su Yun didn’t care what they thought. She pulled out her phone anyway, furiously typing a message, her eyes locked on the screen.

(Sister Xue, are you home right now? Did anyone knock on the door?)

They’d just been chatting earlier, and everything seemed fine—but Su Yun couldn’t relax.

(Qin Xue: I’m home, no one knocked. What’s up, Sister Xiaoyun?)

(Qin Xue: Are you worried about me~? But Sister Xiaoyun, don’t you think you’re underestimating me a little? I only open the door if it’s you, remember?)

A reply came quickly. Qin Xue sounded as lively as ever.

(When I get back, I’ll call you. If I don’t call, even if you hear my voice outside, don’t open the door, okay?)

(Qin Xue: Okay okay~ Sister Xiaoyun, you’re so sweet to me.)

Only after seeing that message did Su Yun feel somewhat relieved. But she didn’t put her phone down just yet. Instead, she opened the screenshot she had taken earlier that morning.

It was a location screenshot—showing where her home was.

She couldn’t help it. She only came back here once every year or two, maybe ten times in total. She didn’t really remember the roads around this area.

But even if she didn’t know the exact route, as long as she knew the general direction, she could figure it out. Once she saw familiar streets, she’d be fine.

She stared at the morning’s location screenshot, memorized the position, and then opened the map app on her phone.

She was still five kilometers away from home.

If she ran at full speed, how long would it take?

Su Yun wasn’t sure. She’d never tried before.

But probably… less than five minutes.

She started messaging Qin Xue while quietly leaving the room—out of respect, at least.

The moment she stepped out, every elder in the room gave her a strange look.

“There’s still someone at home. She has something to take care of,” Su Fulin explained on her behalf.

The others simply nodded and returned to their conversation.

At that moment, alone at home, Qin Xue was no longer bored.

She sat on the edge of the bed, a sweet smile on her face as she typed messages to Sister Xiaoyun.

(I want bread, something sweet. Can you find some for me, Sister Xiaoyun?)

(If you find it, I’ll reward you by letting you eat me tonight~)

Even though Qin Xue still felt a bit dizzy, if Sister Xiaoyun was hungry, she would definitely let her eat first.
