Chapter 15

Chapter 15: You Go Eliminate Bai Fu!

To the Wildfire Gang Boss, Big Bro Biao’s death was no more important than finding a dead rat on the roadside.

But Martin’s death was a different matter—Martin was a supervisor personally promoted by him.

Martin got killed, that was like someone rubbing his face into the ground!

He immediately summoned a few of his trusted subordinates, spitting foam in fury: “Investigate, I’m giving you one day to find out who’s so bold, who dared lay hands on our Wildfire Gang’s supervisor at the abandoned Cooling Plant!”

“Yes, yes, yes.”

None of the subordinates dared pull a tiger’s whiskers at this moment—they could only agree first and figure it out later.

They didn’t actually hold out any hope of finding the real culprit.

Before coming here, they’d already heard that when Martin died, there wasn’t a single person nearby, and there were no visible clues at the scene of his death.

Investigate?

Investigate my ass.

This dump wasn’t like those massive settlements with advanced tech that could trace a killer through blood samples or fingerprints.

But it didn’t matter if they couldn’t find anything—they already had a solution prepared.

Just blame the outsiders!

Those outsiders were already at odds with the Wildfire Gang anyway—piling more blame on them wouldn’t change anything.

In fact, these few subordinates actually kind of liked those outsiders.

With the outsiders around, investigations became simpler; with the outsiders here, old grievances could finally be settled.

They just regretted the outsiders hadn’t arrived sooner and hoped they could hold out a bit longer under the Wildfire Gang’s pressure.

But admittedly, that was still asking a lot of the outsiders.

If the Boss hadn’t been putting in extra effort to host some very important guests recently, those outsiders would’ve long since been driven out into the polluted zones beyond the settlement.

“Boss, now that Martin’s dead, what about the group he was managing?” One of the subordinates asked cautiously.

He wanted to get one of his own people assigned there, but things didn’t go as he’d hoped.

The Wildfire Gang Boss pulled out Martin’s file from the table, gave it a quick glance, then casually pointed.

“Her, then. She was the one doing most of the work in Martin’s group. I heard she was also the first to discover Big Bro Biao’s body. Let her temporarily take over Martin’s group.”

The subordinate leaned over for a look—lo and behold, the name was Bai Fu.

He immediately bowed his head to hide the displeasure in his eyes.

“I’ll get it arranged right away.”

Temporary or not, if she could take over today, then when she died tomorrow, someone else could naturally replace her.

But this kind of thing couldn’t be done personally, nor could it be handled by underlings—it was best to find people who didn’t know her at all.

Like outsiders.

……

Things went surprisingly smoothly.

The investigation results weren’t even out yet, and Bai Fu had already received her appointment to take over Martin’s role.

She had thought there’d at least be some minor complications.

Anya cheered gleefully: “Boss, does this mean we can start collecting money like Martin did while lying around?”

“We can, but his methods were too crude. Besides, we’ve got other things to handle before that.”

“Other things?”

Bai Fu looked at the back of the messenger who had just left.

Just now, she had instinctively used Psionic Vision to check the man’s stats.

The stats were average and unremarkable, but one value stood out sharply.

【-78】

Bai Fu almost thought she had murdered his mom—how else could he hate her so much?

She thought hard but still couldn’t recall ever meeting this person.

Since it wasn’t personal contact that pissed him off, then it must be about conflicting interests.

Just two days ago, she’d been a broke nobody. She wasn’t in any position to fight for interests.

Which meant—there was only one truth.

This guy wanted to be a supervisor too!

You scheming Old Deng, you’re up to no good.

Bai Fu had no idea how this guy would make his move, but she definitely wasn’t someone to mess with either.

Bai Fu withdrew her gaze and opened the new faction features unlocked after being appointed as acting supervisor.

The faction system in Beyond the Stars was incredibly complete, and once a Player gained a faction position, they could unlock many new features.

For Bai Fu, the most important features—aside from higher-level faction access—were the supervisor management functions.

As a supervisor, she could mobilize certain resources and could appoint a【Quartermaster】within her group, and this appointment would be recognized by the faction.4

In the game, a Quartermaster could usually issue【Supply Quests】to Players.

Bai Fu planned to appoint Anya as her Quartermaster to see if she could use this method to give Anya the ability to issue Supply Quests.

She had originally wanted to appoint herself as Quartermaster, but unfortunately, the game returned a failure notice—she couldn’t assign someone with a Player panel as a Quartermaster.

“All set. I’ll take Anya to find a few Players to test this out later.”

If the test worked, she would basically have her own weakened, loli-type Seria!10

……

2 p.m.

The scorching sun hung high in the sky.

【Convert to My Fu】squatted by the roadside, the warm breeze brushing over him stirred a bit of irritation in his chest.

It was his second day after being forced to delete and restart his account by Bai Fu’s supporters in the Community.

After restarting, he had extremely good luck and ended up in the abandoned Cooling Plant—but he’d already spent nearly a full day looking for Bai Fu without any luck.

With no other option, he had to go find some quests to do.

In order to find quests with high rewards and level up quickly, he even risked coming to the Wildfire Gang’s territory.

He didn’t want to fall too far behind the other Players in level—otherwise, even if Bai Fu needed help from Players later, he wouldn’t be able to contribute.

“Ughhh, those guys are way too stingy. I DMed five or six of them and not a single one was willing to sell me the Credit Coins gifted by Fu Fu.”

Convert to My Fu rubbed his hair vigorously.

He stood up from the ground, and just as he was about to take a step, he saw an NPC approaching him with a big golden “!” floating above their head.

No way, a quest!

Convert to My Fu’s eyes lit up and he immediately rushed over.

“Hello, is there anything you need help with?”

The man jumped back in surprise. “O–outsider?”

Convert to My Fu nodded.

The man’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Under normal circumstances, if he encountered an outsider, he would immediately hit them with a seven-day “Bonds of Steel” stun, knock them out cold, and drag them back to the Wildfire Gang for a reward.

But today, he was here with a mission—he couldn’t afford to lose the bigger prize for a small gain.

“I heard you outsiders are willing to do anything as long as there’s money? Help me kill someone.”

“Who? And why do you want them dead?”

“Don’t ask so much. 1,000 coins. Just say whether you’ll do it. If you’re in, I’ll pay you 500 upfront.”

Do it? Of course he’d do it.

Convert to My Fu accepted: “Tell me the mission details.”

The man told him the target’s address, when they’d be home, and where to meet up after completing the job.

A system notification popped up in front of him.

【You’ve triggered the hidden quest [Pact of Slaughter] (Co-op available)】

What surprised him was the reward—3,500 EXP!

With a reward that high, the quest difficulty was obviously no joke—there was no way he could finish it alone.

After the man left, Convert to My Fu immediately opened the Star‑Play Society’s Cooling Plant subforum.

No way he could solo this.

And this was a perfect opportunity to build rapport with Party Big Star and the others—then he could finally approach Fu Fu without hiding it.2

Perfect!
