Chapter 67
Just as Xie Shiqing had said, before leaving, she turned off the wall lamp, and the room instantly darkened.
Xie Shiqing sat quietly for a moment in the pitch-black room. Suddenly, she pulled out the cushion behind her and threw it forcefully. With a loud crash, it was unclear what had been shattered.
Zhong Ning closed the door and began to sigh.
So stupid, brainless, how could she forget that Shiqing had stomach problems? The moment she panicked, she forgot everything, as if her intelligence had flown into outer space. She had made such a low-level mistake, ruining things despite her good intentions.
Shiqing was already worried. What if eating upset her stomach? Wasn't this making things worse?
Annoyed, Zhong Ning shook her head, slowly sat down against the wall, and absentmindedly stirred the mango pomelo sago in her bowl. By the time she realized it, the mango chunks were already turning into mango mush.
She scooped up a spoonful and put it into her mouth.
Her nose wrinkled.
So sour.
Wasting food was bad behavior; wasting mangoes was an unforgivable sin.
She took the elevator down to the kitchen, added three more spoonfuls of honey, and slowly finished eating the bowl of mango pomelo sago.
She had to think of another way. No matter what, sitting around and waiting for death was the worst option when facing difficulties.
So Zhong Ning went back and muttered for another twenty minutes like she was chanting.
She was so sincere, full of hope, trying to contribute her efforts to resolve this crisis, completely unaware that this was a conspiracy and trap meticulously orchestrated by Xie Shiqing.
Even her dreams that night were related to it. She dreamt that the culprit who leaked the film source was caught, everything online was recovered, and all losses were erased. Her beloved came to her side, saying it was all thanks to her, then gave her a deep kiss.
At the end of the dream, it turned into an indescribable spring dream.
After such a happy dream, Zhong Ning felt a little embarrassed upon waking.
Even though they hadn’t been intimate these past few days, she still shouldn’t be having this kind of dream. It made her seem so unsatisfied.
She wasn’t someone who indulged in carnal desires.
The closeness of their minds and the resonance of their spirits were, of course, far more important than physical desires.
She silently scolded herself for a while. Even though it was a holiday today, Zhong Ning didn’t sleep in and got up to wash.
Breakfast was still exquisite, but there were more varieties: her favorite beef buns, seafood congee, and a dish of shredded chicken.
As soon as Zhong Ning walked over, she heard Xie Shiqing say, "I specially instructed the kitchen to make this for you. Ning Ning has been so exhausted from military training, you need to eat something good these days to replenish yourself."
The latter waved her hand.
Her legs seemed to have a will of their own and moved her closer. She looked at the other person eagerly, "Shiqing."
The other opened her arms, and she immediately hugged her tightly, embracing her fully like a little girl clutching a teddy bear, unwilling to let go.
"It's a rare day off, but I’ll be busy these next couple of days. I’m afraid I won’t be able to accompany you. You’ll have to stay at home by yourself." Xie Shiqing sighed softly.
As she spoke, she transferred two million over. "Didn’t you make a few new friends? You can invite them over to play at the house. Villa No. 3 and No. 5 next door also belong to me. You can even invite the whole class for a gathering, it’s all fine."
"It’s just that they can’t come into this house. This is our home, and I don’t like having others inside, alright?"
Zhong Ning opened her mouth, but swallowed back the willful words she wanted to say — but I only want you to keep me company, I don’t want them. What she said instead was the more considerate version: "I’ll be thinking of you all the time. I hope this matter can be resolved soon. I even dreamed yesterday that you caught the bad guy."
Xie Shiqing pinched her cheeks with a smile, then closed her eyes and pressed her soft red lips onto hers. "I will."
After breakfast, she left.
Looking at the transfer record on her phone, Zhong Ning no longer felt that initial helplessness or happiness. She truly didn’t want to accept it, but a strange sixth sense, a curious subconscious, told her not to refuse anything Xie Shiqing gave her.
Do not refuse.
Otherwise, she would get angry.
So Zhong Ning always endured, comforting herself: she wouldn’t spend the money anyway, just put it into another bank account. If Shiqing needed it, she would immediately hand over the card.
As for the gatherings and inviting classmates and friends over as Xie Shiqing suggested, Zhong Ning wasn’t very interested.
Her heart was completely occupied with the situation at Xie Entertainment. She wasn’t in the mood for fun.
But Fu Nanshuang still called her. The student council was organizing a gathering, and it would be best for her to attend.
In every respect, there was naturally a place for her among the new members.
Standing out as much as possible within the student council was also one of her tasks. Zhong Ning sighed, reluctantly changed into another outfit, and asked the driver to take her to the restaurant.
Most of the student council members came from wealthy families and were outstanding, or they were from ordinary backgrounds but geniuses in some way, with exceptional vision and knowledge. The gathering location was, of course, a high-end establishment.
As for the expenses, someone would naturally cover the bill. For example, Zhong Zinuan was quite willing to spend a bit of money to show off her generosity.
The Xie villa was a bit far from Zhuquan Residence, so Zhong Ning arrived somewhat late. When she was led into the private room by the waiter, most of the seats were already filled.
Fu Nanshuang raised her hand and waved, "Little Ning, over here!"
The others were also quite tactful, greeting her enthusiastically.
After all, she was from the Zhong family, which, in a sense, was rarer and more precious than a giant panda.
Zhong Ning smiled and responded to each of them, sitting in the empty seat next to Fu Nanshuang. No one questioned why a newcomer like her was qualified to sit among the senior members.
Zhong Zinuan was sitting on the other side, also smiling, as if being next to the two people she disliked most didn’t affect her at all.
"Little Ning, you came just in time. We were just discussing what to order. Is there anything you’d like to eat?"
As she spoke, her words were clear, and her teeth intact.
