Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 92

Chapter 92: Sister Superior, Please Hurry

Gu Hang’s soldiers, of course, followed his orders.

The Governor had issued a command; they didn’t understand why, but they complied with the directive and retreated.

Naturally, they didn’t just turn around and run. Some provided covering fire, while others formed a defensive line to prevent the armed workers from taking the opportunity to attack and cause unnecessary casualties.

As for Gretel, when she first heard Gu Hang’s voice, she didn’t understand why they needed to retreat. In her view, the battle was about to be won.

Retreating now would not only waste their efforts but also give the heretics a chance to catch their breath, something she was unwilling to see.

However, she couldn’t continue the attack alone with just six nuns.

Seeing the Governor’s soldiers retreating, she had no choice but to follow, despite her reluctance.

The furious Sister Superior planned to confront Governor Gu once they were back.

However, Gu Hang’s subsequent warning that the place was a trap immediately made her alert.

She hadn’t noticed anything, but that didn’t stop her from taking the warning seriously.

Governor Gu was a psyker and might be able to see things she couldn’t.

She signaled for her sisters to retreat with her.

However, the enemy also noticed the intention of the Governor’s forces and the Sisters of the Sacred Lily to retreat.

The surviving armed workers, crazed, leaped from their cover and began a fierce pursuit.

They fired their weapons continuously and moved rapidly.

It seemed they didn’t expect their light weapons to cause significant damage.

Rather, they appeared determined to get their bodies as close to the nuns and soldiers as possible, even at the cost of their lives.

This was no ordinary level of organization and morale for workers. Their eyes were filled with madness, devoid of any rational glimmer.

They wouldn’t live long.

Even during the retreat, the Battle Nuns and the Governor’s soldiers maintained good organization.

The rearguard soldiers and retreating nuns killed these armed workers who recklessly left their cover.

However, behind those armed workers, a fat figure in a gray-white robe quietly emerged from the ruins.

She did not advance or expose herself to the line of fire.

With her hands open, palms facing the sky, the power of the storm began to spread outward from her.

It felt as if an all-pervasive breeze was blowing through. The corpses of the workers touched by this ‘breeze,’ even those buried under the ruins, began to change.

In Gretel’s perception, the previously dormant corpses beneath and around her were now all activated with intense storm magic.

These bombs had not yet exploded, only been activated.

Next, they would only need to be ‘ignited’ for these corpse bombs to naturally detonate.

Gretel knew that escape was impossible.

Before the enemy could trigger the trap, it was already impossible for everyone to retreat beyond the trap’s range.

However, the activation of these corpse bombs also revealed the enemy’s location.

She stopped, exerted her strength, and charged towards the source of the storm magic.

She leaped into the air, and the thrusters on her back spewed flames, propelling her forward at an incredible speed.

Along the way, she kept her explosive gun raised, but the target of the strong storm magic she sensed never appeared within her sight.

She could only grit her teeth and continue her sprint.

In this brief moment, a thought flashed through her mind:
The sisters who followed her had mostly just come back from a grueling war. The Order had stationed them on the Quintet starship as members of the state religion on board, with the intention of giving them two years of rest in a quiet place.

Clearly, staying on the Quintet in orbit around Fury Owl Planet shouldn’t have posed any danger.

They could have spent two peaceful years in the ship’s small chapel, soothing their war-weary hearts.

It was a kind gesture, but Gretel did not appreciate it much.

On the starship, she was physically calm, but her mind couldn’t settle. She had long been accustomed to the battlefield, and found the peace unnerving.

Upon hearing that there were heretical cults rampaging on Fury Owl Planet, she eagerly brought her sisters to the surface to join the fight.

In her view, wearing the Emperor’s blessed armor and wielding great power should be used to destroy the Emperor’s enemies, not for quiet contemplation in a starship chapel.

That would be a waste.
But she hadn’t expected that her decision would lead her sisters, who could have rested safely, into a deadly trap.

She might be strong enough to survive the upcoming explosions, but her sisters would certainly suffer casualties, possibly even be wiped out.

They had survived battles far more intense and terrifying than these skirmishes on Fury Owl Planet, but now, due to her command, they would step into a trap and suffer injuries and death here…

Capsizing in a ditch might sound laughable, but it would come at a bloody price.

If she couldn’t stop the explosion, she would likely live with regret for a long time.

But no matter how fast she rushed, it seemed she wouldn’t make it in time.

She could already feel the spreading storm magic activating more and more corpse bombs. The explosion seemed imminent.

However, at that moment, everything came to an abrupt halt.

The corpse bombs weren’t further activated, nor did they explode.

Then, she heard a sharp, furious voice from the center of the storm magic: “Damn you!”

A wind bullet shot out from there, aimed at the sky.

Gretel looked up, following the trajectory of the wind bullet, and saw a man in a golden noble’s robe hovering there.

As the wind bullet was about to hit, it suddenly dissipated, leaving only a stray gust of wind that made his robe and black hair flutter dramatically.

The man’s eyes glowed with blue psionic light, and he was targeting the cult leader.

Gretel realized that Governor Gu had used some psionic means to sever the cult leader’s control over the corpse bombs, preventing the imminent explosion.

At that moment, Gu Hang’s voice sounded in her ear: “Sister Superior, please eliminate that heretic quickly.”

“Understood!”

Gretel had not wavered due to the change in the situation, and hearing Gu Hang’s words only invigorated her more.

She maintained the boost from her thruster pack, accelerating at the fastest speed she could muster towards the cult leader.

The few remaining armed workers tried to block her.

Their firearms posed no threat to the Sister Superior, so they only sought to get close enough for the cultist to detonate the storm bombs within their bodies as a means of hindrance.

“Don’t hesitate, full charge ahead.”

Gu Hang’s voice rang out again.

By now, Gretel had complete trust in the Governor.
She didn’t even bother with the armed workers, only dealing with them with her explosive gun when convenient.

And indeed, those armed workers did not explode.

All the detonation signals sent by the cultists were intercepted by Gu Hang!
