Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 38

Chapter 38: Assault Warning

The heretical cult wave incited by Council Member Wohan shook the entire Revival City.

From the mouths of the refugees and from Denison Henry, Gu Hang had already learned that the Revival City authorities were in complete disarray.

He was very satisfied with this situation.

By exploiting this incident, he aimed to stir the political waters of Revival City, laying the groundwork for future intervention in its political affairs.

So, despite knowing that the Alliance Council was now at their wit’s end, Gu Hang had no intention of stopping.

Instead, he intended to fan the flames even more.

He connected with Hodgson.

“Hodgson, why haven’t you contacted me proactively during this period? Where are the answers I need?”

Hodgson’s voice was filled with fatigue: “Governor, we have already taken a series of actions and have achieved some preliminary results. I was planning to report to you once we had more information. However, since you need an answer now, I can report our current progress…”

“I’m listening.”

Hodgson began his report.

Clearly, he had prepared for the possibility that Gu Hang might seek him out for questioning in advance. His words flowed smoothly as he detailed the actions taken by the Alliance government in Revival City during this period.

Gu Hang listened patiently until Hodgson finished speaking.

Hodgson was slightly surprised. He had been prepared to be interrupted at any moment during his narration, but the Governor did not do so.

However, he did not feel relieved.

This likely meant that the Governor harbored even greater anger.

With his rising unease, Gu Hang’s voice slowly sounded: “Oh, that’s it? Truly remarkable results.”

“Arrested a few suspects involved in the heretical cult, seized some heretical materials… But then what? Nothing. You haven’t clarified the extent of the Revival City’s infiltration by the cult, nor do you know what these detestable heretics are planning. Those heretical materials, even I, who have been on Fury Owl Planet for less than two months, know a bit about them. The small fry you caught haven’t revealed any useful information. I can’t even be sure if these are scapegoats pushed out by someone.”

“Don’t you think the Alliance government should make more efforts for the safety of Revival City?”

Indeed, what was inevitable had finally come.

Facing the Governor’s questioning, Hodgson slowly began to speak: “You are right, the Alliance government indeed needs to make more efforts. Our upcoming clearance actions will further intensify. However, if we are talking about results, we do have one piece of unverified intelligence.”

“Oh?”

“We have reason to believe you may be targeted for an attack by heretical cultists. They seem to have learned that Wohan was dealt with by you, and they may even know that the current crackdown in Revival City was ordered by you. They might launch a retaliatory action against you.”

Gu Hang’s expression had completely cooled, “Unverified intelligence mentioning an attack on me… How exactly is this intelligence unverified?”

“In an intercepted communication, your camp’s location and the approximate number of armed forces you have were mentioned. Although the intelligence didn’t specify any actions, our intelligence officers believe your current situation is somewhat dangerous. I strongly suggest you return to Revival City as soon as possible; the Alliance’s troops will serve you with their lives.”

After he finished speaking, Gu Hang remained silent.

This was truly a warning shot.

In an instant, Gu Hang thought of many things.

He finally spoke slowly: “Council Head Hodgson, you have indeed given me a significant surprise.”

Hodgson sighed.

Gu Hang’s tone made him realize that his previous concerns were justified.

This matter couldn’t be spoken of lightly, as it could easily be misunderstood, and yet he had no way to explain it.

He said, “I still hold to my suggestion, Governor. Please return to Revival City as soon as possible; it’s the only way to ensure safety.”

“I will be mindful of safety issues. As for the heretical cults… I hope that next time I communicate with you, you will have more substantial results.”

Regarding Hodgson’s suggestion for him to return to Revival City, he was too lazy to even respond.

After hanging up the communication, Gu Hang’s expression was not pleasant.

A warning of an attack against him…

The implications behind this were too many and too deep.

Was it true or false?

Whether true or false, Gu Hang could no longer push the old Council Head any further.

If there was any result to speak of, ensuring the Governor’s safety was certainly a significant matter, wasn’t it?

Upon learning this information, Gu Hang found himself in a dilemma.

How should he respond to this safety threat?

Should he focus on his own safety and proceed with extreme caution in everything afterward?

That would obviously divert his attention.

He might not have as much energy to trouble Revival City later, and even the rapid development of his own forces might be affected.

But he couldn’t ignore it either. What if it was true?

Yet, if he were to take action, how could he do so?

The method of attack was completely unknown.

Would it be an assassin hidden among the refugees? A bomb? A small squad’s raid? An entire army?

Even if nothing happened, Gu Hang couldn’t trouble Hodgson.

After all, according to that old fellow, the intelligence was unverified, and it wasn’t as if he had intended to reveal it; it was forced out during Gu Hang’s questioning for results.

Even if nothing happened, it wouldn’t have much to do with the Alliance government.

Advising the Governor to be cautious about his safety—there couldn’t be anything wrong with that, could there?

Hodgson’s warning cast a shadow over Gu Hang’s heart.

He could even think about the problem in a darker direction: Was this Hodgson, or the Alliance Council, warning him not to overplay his hand with the Governor’s authority? You may have the capability for mutual destruction, but so do we?

Even if the information was false, the Revival City authorities had the means to make it real.

Thinking of this possibility, Gu Hang’s expression grew even darker.

However, today’s bad news came one after another.

After finishing his conversation with Hodgson, he had only thought for a short while when his attendant Zhang Chao rushed in, looking somewhat flustered.
“Governor, we have received a distress signal from Captain Yan Fangxu! They are being besieged by a large number of monsters in the Alien Species Forest!”

Gu Hang didn’t respond immediately.

After a moment, Zhang Chao swallowed hard and spoke again with some difficulty, “Governor?”

Only then did Gu Hang let out a long sigh.

“I understand. Gather our troops and prepare to rescue Yan Fangxu.”

“Yes!”

Watching Zhang Chao hurriedly leave again, Gu Hang sighed once more.

“This warning has indeed been timely.”
