Chapter 50

Chapter 50: Magic Lock-On

Shaking her head to dismiss her thoughts, Janna refocused her attention on Grace Eva.

“Today, I will teach you all about magic lock-on.”

As she spoke, a rift in the interdimensional space opened beside Grace Eva.

Two hummingbird-sized bee sparrows swiftly flapped their wings, emerging from the rift and soaring into the clouds.

“Except for ritual witchcraft and curses that require specific mediums, all other spellcasting by wizards necessitates manual calibration. Therefore, whether you can aim at your enemy during the casting process is crucial to your survival in future battles.”

With that, a crimson viper slithered out from Grace Eva's sleeve, quickly crawling up her right arm.

Accompanied by a flash of blood-red light, a snake-shaped wand covered in blood-colored scales formed in her hand.

“Watch closely. This time, I will teach you a combo spell that combines Magic Missile and Eagle Eye Spell. You can refer to it as magic lock-on.”

A short incantation swiftly escaped Grace Eva's lips.

Simultaneously, she formed a circle with her left index finger and thumb, positioning it in front of her left eye. Her right hand waved the wand clockwise twice.

Two white, orb-like magic missiles shot out from the wand's tip, piercing through the air.

“Bang! Bang!”

Like two gunshots, the bee sparrow puppets that had hidden in the clouds were directly blasted apart by the magic missiles, scattering debris that rained down from the sky.

“The incantation must be quick and precise. Your wand-wielding hand should not tremble. Of course, if your physical constitution leads to insufficient muscle strength, you might consider undergoing bloodline modification…”

“The Eagle Eye Spell is relatively simpler. Once you become proficient, you can replace the hand gesture with a more covert blinking method…”

For the next hour, Grace Eva instructed all apprentices who had not yet mastered the Eagle Eye Spell and Magic Missile to immediately construct the models for these two spells.

Although Grace Eva generously demonstrated the spell models, the noisy outdoor environment and the dense crowd made it challenging for most to concentrate and simulate them.

“Janna, have you already mastered these two spells?”

“I happened to have learned them earlier.”

These two spell models were extremely simple, only slightly more complex than apprentice tricks.

Just by glancing at them a few times, Janna had already achieved a basic understanding of both spells, thanks to her [Exceptional Memory] talent.

After that, it was merely a matter of forcefully leveling them up.

[Wizard Skills: Contract Summoning (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Spirit Summoning (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Soul Lash (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Vine Bind (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Acid Spray (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Soul Chain (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Siren Chanting (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Basic Transfiguration (Partial Transformation: Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Eagle Eye Spell (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Magic Missile (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade)]

Looking at the two spells that had already reached the current level cap in her skill list, Janna closed the skill interface under Vivian's suspicious gaze.

“You've even learned such a mediocre spell like Magic Missile? Don't tell me you've gone through all the First Tier apprentice spells?”

“I haven't learned your specialties, Frost Spell and Ice Spike.”

“Well, I haven't learned Contract Summoning either…”

Through simple magic power conversion techniques, Janna could also cast fire and frost spells.

However, due to the prolonged casting time and the power not even qualifying as apprentice tricks, she didn't waste time focusing on areas she wasn't proficient in.

“Since you've already mastered Ice Spike, there's no need to repeatedly practice Magic Missile. Professor Grace's combo spell isn't complicated. She uses Magic Missile as the casting prerequisite simply because it's straightforward and more suitable for combo spells.”

“I think so too! Moreover, the power of Magic Missile isn't even as strong as Acid Spray… It's just that it has a longer attack range.”

Hearing Janna's words, Vivian, who wasn't adept at non-ice domain spells, didn't bother practicing further.

She waved her expensive wand at Janna and raised an eyebrow, saying:

“Later, I'll show you the power of this new wand.”

Clap clap—

Seeing that time was almost up, Grace Eva clapped her hands lightly, drawing the apprentices' attention back to her.

“Since you're all more or less prepared, let's begin practical training.”

Boom—

Blood light spread as Grace Eva lightly stepped on the ground.

A semicircular blood-colored light shield, nearly a hundred meters high and with a radius of about five hundred meters, expanded from the artificial hill, enveloping all the apprentices present.

Buzz buzz—

An interdimensional rift opened again beside Grace Eva.

Accompanied by a piercing buzzing sound, ten bee sparrow puppets swiftly flew out from the rift.

“There are ten puppets in total. If you can shoot down any one of them within an hour, I will reward you with a free question opportunity.”

Ding—

[Today's Task: Shoot down at least one bee sparrow puppet;

Task Reward: 100 Talent EXP, 500 Skill EXP, and one random reward.]

Looking at the randomly triggered task content on the quest interface, Janna couldn't help but gently grip her Greenwood Wand with her right hand.

“There is only one rule: remember not to damage the school's public property, or bear the consequences yourself.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Grace Eva's figure quietly disappeared.

Upon seeing this, except for a small number of apprentices who had not yet broken through to First Tier, and those who, despite breaking through, only mastered apprentice tricks, the rest had already targeted the bee sparrow puppets in the sky, which were so fast they left only afterimages, preparing their spells and ready to act.

“Ice Spike!”

A flash of cold light, and an ice spike enveloped in frost quickly condensed at the tip of Vivian's wand.

In just an instant, the ice spike was launched, and the powerful magical fluctuation even blew Janna's hair to the side.

“How about that? Not bad, right?”

Vivian proudly shook her wand, clearly very satisfied with her Ice Spike spell.

“I'll praise you once you hit a bee sparrow puppet.”

Bang bang bang bang—

Following Vivian's Ice Spike offensive, a large number of Magic Missiles from other apprentices, as well as countless Fireball Spells and Frost Bullet Spells, exploded in the sky one after another.

Although the momentum was grand, no apprentice managed to shoot down any bee sparrow puppet.

“No, they're too high. Even with the Eagle Eye Spell, it's not easy to lock onto high-altitude targets, unless combined with flight spells…”

“You're right.”

Before Vivian could react, a pair of gorgeous emerald butterfly wings rapidly unfolded behind Janna.
