Chapter 44

Chapter 44: Second Daily Quest

“Ding—”

【Today's Quest (2): Purchase the Verdant Wand;

Quest Reward: 100 Talent EXP, 500 Skill EXP, one random reward.】

The sudden chime of a quest notification echoed in Janna’s mind.

As she read the content on the quest panel, a trace of doubt rose in her heart.

“Two daily quests triggered on the same day…”

Based on her past experience, the Daily Quest System typically issued reactive quests.

The average frequency was about once every three days, and never before had two quests triggered in a single day over the past several months.

“It seems... there’s definitely something off about this wand.”

Speculating silently, Janna recalled that ever since she had dreamed of the “Divine War” and learned that the “Daily Quest System” was in fact a manifestation of a shard of divine authority, she had begun paying serious attention to the contents of the quests it issued.

Most quests were random with no discernible pattern, relying entirely on her initiative to trigger.

However, some quests, like the one she had just received—“Purchase the Verdant Wand”—had a very strong directive.

Even more curious was that, despite Janna not knowing anything about the wand, the system had clearly spelled out its name.

“Excuse me, what’s the name of this wand?”

“This wand is called the Healing Wand, named by Master Raccoon Cat, the wand repair specialist.”

“Healing Wand?”

Hearing the sales assistant mention a name that didn’t match the quest information, Janna’s eyes narrowed slightly, though no obvious emotion crossed her face.

“Yes, even though this wand is a refurbished item repurchased by our store, after being restored by Master Raccoon Cat, it’s as good as new… It not only reduces casting time and improves spell accuracy, but also increases magical power by 5%. Plus, when held, it speeds up wound healing and prevents infection…”

Seeing that a customer was finally interested in this long-shelved inventory item, the baby-faced sales assistant perked up and eagerly began listing the wand’s attributes.

“But there is one drawback—it can only be used by wizards with Plant Affinity. That’s also why it hasn’t sold for so long.”

Janna nodded, finally understanding why a wand with such decent stats and a reasonable price had remained unsold.

“When you bought it, did the mercenaries say who made it?”

“Well… the mercenaries didn’t know either. They found it in a ruined fairy site. According to Master Raccoon Cat, it was probably crafted by a fairy alchemist. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have that restriction allowing only those with Plant Affinity to use it.”

Upon hearing the phrase “fairy site,” Janna’s brows lifted slightly.

Fairies were often a collective term for long-lived species like flower spirits and tree spirits.

Take the Oak Dryads, for example—members of the tree spirit race with a captivating aura.

They were adept in music, mischievous in nature, devout followers of the Path of Nature, and among the most skilled practitioners of natural magic.

“If you’re looking for a plant-based wand, I’d actually recommend the ‘Floral Wand’ on the top row. Its shaft is made of phosphorescent wood core and it’s set with a Green Python Eye gem. It greatly enhances plant magic power and even comes with the ‘Floral Shield’ spell inscribed, which can be instantly cast twice per day…”

Janna glanced at the top-shelf wand with its ornate design and a price tag of 200 Gold Surrel, then resolutely shook her head. She still chose the “Healing Wand” priced at 125 Gold Surrel.

“Thank you for your purchase. Please come again.”

Touching the pouch that now held only 80 Gold Surrel, Janna sighed at how quickly money slipped away but left the shop “Raccoon Cat’s New Threads” feeling generally satisfied.

“Quest Panel.”

【Today's Quest (2): Purchase the Verdant Wand (Completed);

Quest Reward: 100 Talent EXP, 500 Skill EXP, Luck +0.1.】

“Luck?”

She habitually allocated the Talent EXP to her 【Soul Projection】 talent and kept her eyes fixed on her character attributes, especially the line reading 【Luck: 7.6 (+0.1)】.

“This is the first time the system has rewarded Luck points.”

Unlike attributes like 【Perception】, 【Charisma】, or 【Comprehension】, which though abstract could be measured with objective data, 【Luck】 was closer to an esoteric concept from mysticism—something that touched upon the realm of “fate.”

In witchcraft, many spells could influence fortune.

Curses, or the “Luck Siphoning” rituals from dark ceremonies, for instance.

But those were magical implementations achieved through ritual witchcraft, artificially induced yet still conforming to the rules of fate.

However, the 【Luck Value】 granted by the system felt more like a deviation from fate—causing a “positive” change in a real-world event, not due to human intervention.

This “positive” change was defined by the laws of fate as “beneficial.”

For Janna, it truly altered her predestined outcome, making her luckier in a subtle but real way…

“What exactly is hidden within this wand? It’s clearly a low-tier white quest, yet it yielded a Luck point as a reward…”

Staring at the vine-shaped wand in her hand, imbued with an aesthetic unique to fairy craftsmanship, Janna suddenly felt a strange sense of intimacy.

For a moment, she even felt the Plant Affinity inside her Soul Tree resonate with the “Verdant Wand” in her hand.

“Could it be related to the Authority Fragment?”

Although she had her suspicions, she couldn’t investigate further while still outside.

So Janna decided to tuck the wand into the inner pocket of her robe for safekeeping.

“I’ll study it properly once I’m back at the dorm.”

Pulling up the hood of her new robe, she whispered an incantation and cast the Featherlight Spell.

Just like an elf gliding through the urban landscape, she stepped lightly, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, disappearing into the labyrinth of alleys.

……

“Clack—”

With a flutter of wings, Janna transformed into her butterfly-winged form after leaving the city, soaring swiftly through the Misty Forest using her Transfiguration.

Compared to the Featherlight Spell, the butterfly wings doubled her speed.

It took her less than half the usual time to traverse the vine-covered tunnel using Misty Branches, bringing her quickly back to White Coral Academy.

“Caw—Caw—”

Just as she retracted her wings and was preparing to return to her dorm, a black-feathered rook with a white envelope in its beak suddenly flew in front of her.

“Caw—Little Apprentice, this letter’s for you.”
