Chapter 105: Spirit Phase Travel
"Hu—"
As the ritual chants ended, the flame atop the laurel-scented candle swiftly surged upward.
As the fragrance thickened, the flame burning on the candlewick quickly shifted from orange-yellow to a dim blue.
"Time’s just about right."
Watching the candle melt rapidly, Janna immediately raised the Mithril Short Knife soaked in blood and thrust it hard into the center of the mirror.
The blade rose and fell. Though pierced by the short knife, the Silver-Faced Round Mirror did not shatter.
Instead, it rippled with waves like water, swallowing the blade.
Along with it, the twelve Magic Stone Fragments placed atop the mirror also sank swiftly into the mirrored surface like stones falling into a lake.
"Success!"
Just like the first time she performed the Contract Summoning ritual, once Janna completed the ritual, a dazzling silver-white light burst from the mirror.
Without hesitation, Janna immediately activated her talent—Spirit Phase Travel.
"Coordinate information: Mirror Layer Domain!"
The light engulfed the entire dormitory.
After locking onto the coordinates, Janna's consciousness detached and once again transformed into spirit form, plunging into the mirror.
"Now that I'm in spirit form, the laws of the Mirror Layer Domain no longer reject me."
The sky was gray and white, the ground flowed like mercury.
Seeing the familiar scene before her, Janna knew she had successfully arrived in the Mirror Layer Domain.
"Moreover, the spirit form consumes no Soul Power. I can stay here as long as I want without any problem."
Of course, that was only if Janna’s physical body in the material world could withstand it. After all, the flow of time in the Mirror Layer Domain was one-to-one with that of the material world.
In other words, based on her current physical condition, she could only remain in the Mirror Layer Domain for up to seventy-two hours.
If she exceeded this time limit, her physical body in the material world would face the risk of dehydration.
Although her body was much stronger than an ordinary person's and wouldn’t suffer life-threatening danger from seventy-two hours without water, Janna still chose to be cautious for safety’s sake.
"Ding-ling."
The chime of Soul Echo spread throughout the Mirror Layer Domain. Because of the coordinate lock, Janna in her spirit form could not move beyond the range covered by the Contract Summoning Ritual's Barrier; otherwise, she would automatically return to the material plane.
So now, she could only wait—wait for those Magical Creatures from Another World that matched the Hertz frequency of her Soul Echo and were interested in her to appear.
"Last time I entered the Mirror Layer Domain, I didn’t encounter any attacks from native creatures. Just like Padin Green said, compared to the ‘kill-on-sight’ mirror laws, the mirror creatures are relatively docile and do not actively attack outsiders…"
Of course, that also meant mirror creatures were a relatively aloof group. Docile did not mean friendly.
It could simply be that they didn’t want to bother with outsiders.
"Ding-ling-ling—"
While Janna’s thoughts wandered, a sudden clear chime interrupted her reverie.
"No way—this fast?"
"Ding-ling ding-ling ding-ling ding-ling—"
The vibrations of the Soul Echo grew more frequent, but as she looked around, no matter how hard Janna searched, she couldn’t find the visitor’s figure.
"Could it be... an Illusion?"
The Soul Echo didn’t lie. However, the mirror creatures’ adeptness at stealth could easily bypass Janna’s spirit form vision. If the other party refused to show itself, Janna couldn’t use forbidden witchcraft on them like she did in Spirit Summoning.
"Ding-ling—ding-ling—"
Time ticked by second by second. Though the Soul Echo still resonated, Janna waited for hours without seeing the creature appear.
Moreover, as the resonance with the Hertz frequency weakened, Janna could clearly sense that the interest from this hidden mirror creature was gradually fading.
"As expected, I’m not universally adored."
Having learned her lesson from the Celestial Finch, Janna had hoped to get something for nothing again. But this time, the trick didn’t work. After waiting so long, the mirror creature still hadn’t even shown its face.
"If that’s the case, then how about this—————"
Her spirit form began to fade.
In the blink of an eye, a Source Energy Fragment wrapped in gray-white light slipped from Janna’s mouth.
With the release of Source Energy, the previously calm Soul Echo suddenly accelerated.
"Crack—"
A sharp shattering sound overwhelmed the Soul Echo.
Under Janna’s stunned gaze, a dense web of cracks like spider silk swiftly spread before her.
"Crack!"
The cracks widened.
With a final burst, a semicircular area with a radius of about five meters centered on Janna shattered instantly.
Like a bubble popping, the gray-white world before her seemed unchanged, but Janna now realized she had been enclosed from the start within a mirror illusion identical to the Mirror Layer Domain.
"What an exquisite illusion—Even Lo Silverfox might not be able to construct something this convincing—"
It was still the same endless gray-white sky, but after the illusion broke, an entirely silver-white oval mirror with hollow floral patterns etched around its edge appeared floating in the air about ten meters away from Janna.
"So this is a native creature of the Mirror Layer Domain?"
It looked no different from an ordinary dressing mirror. While curious, Janna calmed her emotions, trying to appear as friendly as possible.
"Wizard Tongue? Elvish Language? Or Mykethan?"
Janna greeted the mirror creature in three different languages.
Seeing no response, she had to lift the Source Energy Fragment again and speak in the common wizard language:
"If you form a contract with me, this can be yours."
No reaction?
"Form a contract, and this will belong to you."
Ding-ling—there was a response!
"So you understand Mykethan—"
Seeing the mirror creature slowly approach, Janna didn’t act rashly. She stood quietly, waiting for the creature to make its move.
"A deal’s a deal~"
On the silver-white surface of the mirror, four large words outlined in red paint appeared in the common wizard language. Janna’s expression stiffened for a moment.
"So you were pretending not to understand—"
The Contract Array suddenly activated.
Once their intentions were confirmed, the mirror creature wasted no time and used a short-range teleportation to enter Janna’s Contract Array.
"I, under the witness of the Lord of the Spirit Realm in the river of time, vow with my will: the contract is established, never to be broken—"
