Chapter 89

Chapter 89: Reporting to the Sanctuary

Upon returning to her office, Sylvia sat down in her seat. As she looked at the neat desktop, a fleeting moment of daze passed over her, and her eyes lost focus.

After Lakdevo landed on the back of the chair, he remained silent for a moment before speaking:

"Master, it’s another item infused with divinity."

Sylvia came back to her senses and pressed her nonexistent temple, speaking with a hint of a headache:

"Yes."

This time, she did not hold anything back and disclosed the clues about the other six divine natures to him.

Lakdevo once again fell silent.

Seeing this, Sylvia paid it no mind and continued speaking to herself:

"Now among the Nine True Gods, only the God of Law and Order and the All-Knowing God haven’t had their divinities appear in Alova."

"No."

Lakdevo slowly spoke, and then said solemnly:

"Master, do you still remember that relic’s door?"

"According to your account, the one sealed inside was a Dragon King."

"To seal such a terrifying being, relying solely on a fixed ritual would not be enough."

"Moreover, to ensure that the extraordinary properties of that door would not fade over time, it must have been imbued with a certain amount of divinity during its forging—likely just a trace."

"And the divinity infused into the door should be singular. After all, multiple divinities would either conflict with each other or fuse and produce unknown changes."

"We didn’t sense any trace of divinity from that door at the time..."

At this point, Sylvia's voice abruptly stopped, and Lakdevo said nothing either.

Because they both had reached the same suspicion—

By the time they had arrived, that trace of divinity had already been taken by someone.

At the same time, Sylvia recalled something mentioned in Buolanke’s letter:

A turquoise had been shattered.

Turquoise, a symbol of the All-Knowing God.

And the divinity once contained in that door could now be almost certainly identified—

Divinity of the All-Knowing God!

With this, it seemed that the only divine nature yet to appear was the one of Order.

But had it truly not appeared? Or had they simply yet to encounter it?

No one could say for certain.

After a few more seconds of silence, Sylvia slowly asked:

"In your memories, are there any rituals involving similar circumstances?"

Lakdevo shook his head:

"None."

"And you heard that demon’s words earlier—you should be well aware of what position I held within the River Council."

His tone carried a trace of bitterness and helplessness as he spoke.

Sylvia leaned back against the chair, gently tapping her fingers on the desk.

She considered seeking out Buolanke, but was awkwardly reminded that she had no way to contact him.

After a few seconds, she spoke again:

"If I take these items out of the City of Alova, will the potential threat disappear?"

"Not necessarily."

Lakdevo shook his head:

"Since you’ve been able to acquire these things so easily, it means the mastermind behind all this has likely already achieved their goal."

"Perhaps he—or they—have already extracted part of the divinity from these items. Or perhaps all they needed was for these things to be brought to Alova."

Sylvia nodded while picking up the thread:

"Maybe, as we previously suspected, it’s the Priests of the End from the Kingdom of Ulpus who are behind this."

"And what about that pocket world in the sewers—could it also be connected to this?"

"However, I believe another force is also involved. For example, the setup surrounding that failed Full Moon cultist, and Macas, who still hasn’t been captured to this day."

Lakdevo didn’t respond, but simply nodded in agreement.

Sylvia let out a soft sigh, sinking into thought.

She wasn’t afraid of the conspiracy lurking behind all this.

With her current rank and strength, unless something as outrageous as the God of War’s descent three hundred years ago occurred, nothing could truly threaten her.

And even if she couldn’t win, she could still escape—right?

What truly concerned her now was the City of Alova itself, and the friends and subordinates who lived here.

She could take them all away, but that would inevitably expose her.

Besides, knowing the clergy of St. Ruls Cathedral, they would never agree to abandon the city and evacuate.

That left only one reliable course of action—reporting the matter. She would have Loruze report it to the Sanctuary of the Church of Radiance and request assistance and rescue.

However, this meant she would need to temporarily leave Alova.

This level of crisis would definitely draw the attention of the Church of Radiance, and a thorough sweep would be unavoidable. If she didn’t leave first, exposure was only a matter of time.

After a period of contemplation, she chose external delegation over handling it personally.

The moment she made her decision, the tapping of her fingers on the desk grew abruptly louder. As a wave of deep purple light rippled out, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the door.

"Your Grace, is something the matter?"

After knocking and receiving permission, Loruze entered.

Sylvia relayed to Loruze the deductions she had just discussed with Lakdevo, along with certain details she had previously withheld, presenting everything in a refined and coherent manner.

As she spoke, the expression on the Radiant Bishop's face gradually grew grave.

Worry and anger flickered across his features, ultimately settling into a long sigh.

At the end of her explanation, Sylvia said calmly:

"For safety’s sake, I suggest you report this to the Sanctuary immediately and await their response."

"As for me, to avoid arousing the Church of Radiance’s suspicion, I will temporarily leave the City of Alova."

"As for the rest of you, I can offer two choices:"

"First, leave with me. That way, you will not face any danger."

"Second, remain in Alova and wait for the Church of Radiance’s support."

"However, if you stay, you will face potential danger and the inevitable exposure of your conversion."

"Of course, choosing the first option also means that your conversion will come to light before the Church of Radiance."

"Hmm… Let’s do this: don’t send the telegram just yet. First, gather the opinions of all the clergy here and compile their responses for me."

"Once that’s done, then you can contact the Sanctuary."

Loruze fell into silence after hearing this.

A few seconds later, he asked somewhat hesitantly:

"Your Grace… are you planning to abandon the City of Alova?"

Sylvia did not answer directly. Her gaze instead darkened slightly as she looked at him:

"I could choose to handle this personally, but that would turn the situation into a gamble—a gamble where the entire City of Alova is the stake."

"If I win, everything will be fine."

"If I lose, you and I may be unharmed, but the City of Alova will vanish."

"Is that a situation you can accept?"

The Radiant Bishop, who had just been in good spirits after encountering a creature once only described in books, now fell into deep silence.

In the end, he shook his head.

After a brief and respectful farewell, Loruze turned and left the room to carry out the task Sylvia had given him.

As she watched his departing figure, the gray-haired puppet girl remained seated, motionless—until at last, she let out a sigh.
