Chapter 57

Chapter 57: The Wheel of Fortune Turns—This Year It's My Turn

Lu Zheng was pushed and twisted around endlessly through the base by Yi Ning. When he began to feel a bit impatient, he finally stopped walking, forcibly halting Yi Ning’s aimless wandering routine.

“Where are we going?”

He turned his head and asked Yi Ning.

Lu Zheng’s reason for entering the base was actually very simple.

If divided by percentage: 22% was out of the classic “since I’m here, might as well” mentality, 19% was to deliberately oppose Yi Ning and enjoy her resisting expressions, and the remaining 59% was to search for that Freedom Alliance guy.

But Yi Ning had already said there was no need to worry about that Freedom Alliance guy anymore.

Trusting her, Lu Zheng’s 59% motive was quickly overtaken by the desire to see more of Yi Ning’s annoyed and reluctant expressions.

Lu Zheng couldn’t even explain why he always wanted to see those angry little expressions from Yi Ning.

Yi Ning used to show them often too, but now they somehow looked especially cute on her.

Guess that’s just the power of a pretty face.

Now, 78% of Lu Zheng’s reason for being in the base was to see Yi Ning’s dissatisfied or resisting little expressions.

Unfortunately, since he was already inside the base, he couldn’t use that as an excuse to tease Yi Ning anymore.

So after entering the base, Lu Zheng obediently followed Yi Ning’s directions, wandering around the base with her.

He didn’t really care what they did inside or even about the base itself.

After all, he came here every workday, and had even flattened the place once.

Probably only Yi Ning and the construction workers constantly repairing the place knew it better than him.

But after wandering for a while, even Lu Zheng began to feel a bit bored.

So he used this as an opportunity to express his dissatisfaction.

“This isn’t a place for discussion, so I’m taking you somewhere more appropriate.”

Hearing Lu Zheng’s question, Yi Ning casually made up a reason.

Truthfully, there was no special reason for walking in circles—it was just that she had dug holes all over the place, and to get Lu Zheng out of the projection-covered area, she had to take a longer route.

She withdrew one hand from behind Lu Zheng, placed it on his face, and gently pushed his head back into position.

Then she resumed standing behind him, applying gentle pressure to keep pushing him forward, hoping to get out of the projection zone quickly—but unfortunately, this time it didn’t work.

Lu Zheng stood like a mountain, not budging an inch.

“Can’t we talk over there just as well?”

Lu Zheng pointed to a nearby table.

He and Yi Ning had sat at that table when he’d come seeking help for Ye Qin.

Now that the Ye Qin matter was resolved, seeing that table stirred a bit of nostalgia in him.

He turned, intending to go take a look.

“Hold it right there.”

Seeing his movement, Yi Ning quickly grabbed his shoulder to stop him from going any further toward that table.

This room was completely covered in projections now. Without her guidance, she feared Lu Zheng would accidentally fall into one of the little surprises she had prepared for her evil plan this afternoon.

She didn’t care if Lu Zheng got soaked, but all her carefully arranged surprises would be ruined.

All her prior effort would be wasted.

She hurriedly pulled him back.

To prevent Lu Zheng from acting on his own again, she deliberately put on an angry face and started scolding him while dragging him back.

“What are you doing?”

Yi Ning’s willow brows furrowed, her face full of displeasure.

“I just thought that place looked good for a chat. How about we go there?”

Lu Zheng once again made a move toward the table.

With every step closer, Yi Ning’s expression became more and more resistant.

“Didn’t I say not to go near it? Can’t you stop causing me trouble when you’re not out fighting evil?”

Seeing that Lu Zheng was about to reach the table, Yi Ning swiftly grabbed his arm and began scolding him in a stern tone.

To take the moral high ground, Yi Ning exaggerated the situation.

If she had been a moment slower, Lu Zheng might’ve fallen into the surprise she had prepared for the afternoon.

Thinking of that made her expression even more sour.

But seeing Yi Ning’s unhappy expression only made Lu Zheng more excited instead of ashamed—his face beneath the pixel screen even lit up a bit.

From Yi Ning’s tone and behavior, he could tell she didn’t want him near that table—so of course he had to act like he wanted to go there.

After all, one of his main goals in coming to the base was to enjoy Yi Ning’s little reactions.

These resistant expressions were exactly what he wanted.

Yi Ning, seeing the excited look on Lu Zheng’s pixel screen, was puzzled.

She didn’t understand.

She had scolded him so harshly, yet he still looked this excited? Where was his shame? His guilt?

Was this guy a masochist?

The thought made Yi Ning’s face show a trace of disgust.

But she quickly curled her lips into a smirk, assuming a “everything’s under control” expression.

This was good too.

Having such an obvious weakness made him easier to control.

To test her theory, Yi Ning didn’t respond to Lu Zheng. Instead, she gave his calf a light kick.

Lu Zheng turned his head to look at her but didn’t say anything.

Since he had provoked her on purpose, getting hit now made it hard to be angry.

But Yi Ning didn’t know what Lu Zheng was thinking.

She just felt that her guess was right.

Seeing no reaction, she confidently grabbed his arm, forcefully pulled him in front of her, and continued shoving him forward.

If he was a masochist, maybe he’d enjoy a bit of rough treatment.

“Stop whining. When I say go, you go!”

She began using a deliberately impatient tone to boss Lu Zheng around, and once the mood hit her, she even playfully kicked him on the butt.

So satisfying!

A masochist, huh?

Since she had found his weakness, she wasn’t about to waste it.

Thinking about her past—how she used to be the one getting beaten—made her even happier.

Now the tables had turned—this year, it was her turn to take charge.

With that thought, she excitedly gave Lu Zheng another kick.

Up ahead, Lu Zheng could only smile helplessly.

This girl’s getting addicted to kicking me.

He glanced at Yi Ning out of the corner of his eye, wanting to grab her leg and flip her over.

But considering he was the one who started this, he felt a bit embarrassed to retaliate.

Forget it.

Lu Zheng withdrew his gaze.

The kicks didn’t hurt anyway, so he might as well let her be.
