Chapter 27

Chapter 27: Enemy A

“Alright, alright.”

Yi Ning waved her hand at the two of them, looking as if it didn’t matter.

But in reality, she felt extremely flustered inside.

In over twenty years of her life, this was the first time anyone had ever thanked her so seriously.

This kind of unprecedented experience made her feel very out of place.

She rather disliked such uncontrollable emotions.

Yi Ning maintained her habitual wicked smile, pretended to be nonchalant, stepped back a few paces, and waved at them.

“Since my job here is done, I won’t stick around. After all, I’m an evil scientist aiming to conquer D-City. Hanging around harmoniously on the heroes’ turf isn’t a good look, is it?”

This uncomfortable feeling made her unwilling to linger at the Hero Association any longer.

Yi Ning casually brushed off Ye Qin and Miss Qiu Yu, not caring how they reacted. She pulled a remote from her pocket and directly pressed the teleport-home button.

“Anyway, I’m leaving first. As for the stuff I asked for, just have that pixel-screen-head bring it to me when he gets off work. But make sure the certificates are delivered before I clock out, or I won’t be able to report to my higher-ups.”

As she spoke, Yi Ning’s body began turning into blue light, gradually fading.

“Wait!”

The blue light returned to human form.

“Tell that pixel-screen-head not to knock or ring the doorbell when he gets to my place. Just call me—use the same number I called him from last time.”

“Don’t worry.”

Miss Qiu Yu nodded to Yi Ning.

“You helped us so much—I won’t make things hard for you. Even if he’s unwilling, I’ll drag him there myself to deliver the materials!”

Only after hearing Miss Qiu Yu’s promise did Yi Ning feel reassured, and the blue silhouette began to fade again.

But then she suddenly remembered there was some intelligence she hadn’t shared yet.

Yi Ning quickly interrupted the teleportation again.

“One more thing!”

The blue light transformed back into Yi Ning.

Seeing the blue glow reappear again and again, Miss Qiu Yu and Ye Qin felt at a loss for words.

“Why not just say everything before you go?”

“Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Yi Ning’s gaze wandered.

“But this really is the last thing.”

Because she had been eager to leave the Hero Association, Yi Ning hadn’t thought too hard about what she needed to say—hence the repeated interruptions now.

She did feel a bit embarrassed.

Fortunately, the blue hologram didn’t show expressions.

“It’s about the intel on the guy who turned Ye Qin into a human bomb.”

The moment she said this, Miss Qiu Yu’s expression turned serious.

“You’ve got intel on that?”

“Of course.”

Yi Ning sounded proud.

“And it’s intel that almost no one else would know.”

Information known only to Yi Ning?

Could it be something from the Evil Council?

Miss Qiu Yu and Ye Qin both showed curious expressions.

Seeing their eager faces made Yi Ning’s vanity swell with satisfaction.

She spoke: “That guy who turned Ye Qin into a human bomb... he’s too much trouble to name. Let’s just call him Enemy A.”

Yi Ning cleared her throat.

“Enemy A most likely possesses a fusion-type ability.”

“Fusion?”

Miss Qiu Yu looked puzzled.

“Yeah, fusion—as in the ability to merge one thing with another.”

Yi Ning explained.

“The bomb in Ye Qin was made so well that if the culprit didn’t have some fusion-related ability, there’d be no way to explain how it was done so perfectly.”

“That’s it?”

Ye Qin felt skeptical.

She hadn’t sensed a thing before blacking out. If the enemy only had a fusion ability, she should’ve noticed something.

As a martial artist, Ye Qin had confidence in her instincts.

“Yes.”

As second place in the Human Body Modification practicum, Yi Ning had confidence in her technical knowledge.

Without a related ability, there was no way someone could’ve modified Ye Qin so perfectly.

Yi Ning continued her warning.

“Also, Enemy A is someone who’s confident to the point of arrogance. He must have believed that no one in the Hero Association could save Ye Qin—otherwise he wouldn’t have sent her back.”

Yi Ning’s tone held a touch of disdain, though it couldn’t be seen in her blue hologram form.

She added: “If you plan to capture him, be cautious. His strength definitely isn’t low.”

Seeing the tension in their faces, Yi Ning quickly offered reassurance.

“But don’t worry—he’s definitely weaker than you.”

She pointed at Miss Qiu Yu, offering a dose of comfort.

“If he wanted something directly, he would’ve attacked you head-on. Why go to all this trouble threatening you?”

Yi Ning chuckled.

After saying that, she didn’t teleport away immediately, instead taking a moment to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything else.

Only after confirming she’d said everything did she begin to dissolve into blue light again.

Perhaps thinking she looked silly standing there motionless while thinking, Yi Ning left a parting remark before fully vanishing:

“Tell Pixel Mask he doesn’t need to stop me this afternoon. I’m not working anymore today.”

Then she gestured goodbye to the two of them and completely disappeared from the Hero Association.

Miss Qiu Yu and Ye Qin kept watching her until she was gone, only then resuming their actions.

“Fusion, huh...”

Miss Qiu Yu pressed her temples, thinking for a moment, then turned to Ye Qin.

“Let’s wait until Lu Zheng gets back before discussing this further. I’ll go prepare the files Yi Ning—Dr. Alien’s real name—needs. You rest a bit.”

After such a dangerous experience, Miss Qiu Yu would’ve liked to sit and chat with Ye Qin some more, but as she had said—Yi Ning had helped them greatly, and she couldn’t make things hard for her.

Miss Qiu Yu returned to her desk to prepare the documents Yi Ning needed.

Ye Qin wandered around the Hero Association, occasionally walking behind Miss Qiu Yu to watch her work, until Lu Zheng returned with a team.

“Brother Lu Zheng!”

Seeing Lu Zheng return, Ye Qin stood up from her seat.

“Mhm.”

Seeing Ye Qin apparently safe and sound, Lu Zheng breathed a sigh of relief and nodded at her, then led the staff to inspect the time bomb.
