Lars' Fun Village Remodeling Plan
I spent an entire day understanding the job aptitude of all the beastmen. I scratched away at the stone tablet with a colored branch to take notes and create a chart.
The breakdown was forty warriors, twenty-five archers, and ten thief. There was one magician and two priests among them, and of the remaining eighteen, three were able to acquire the skill after actually seeing the effect of my merchant skill, the sling rifle. The other fifteen were either children or didn't activate any skills, so their status remained unclear.
Perhaps due to the hazardous environment from childhood, the majority had a job aptitude specialized in physical combat. However, from a defense standpoint, this was incredibly beneficial as they were ready for action.
Honestly, having ten magicians and ten priests would have been even better. Merchants aren't considered combat power until they become magitech engineers. From the perspective of enriching a peaceful village, merchants are the most suited, but now is not the time for that.
「Alright, let's think this through.」
I examined the chart and considered the skill configurations, focusing on the defense side of the guild siege battles.
I had played guild siege battles extensively. It was like a monthly event, but the benefits of winning a siege were significant, so I challenged it earnestly every time.
While castles and forts were the main battlegrounds, there were unusual cases like bandit hideouts or coal mines. There were ten guild siege battlefields in the world, and the battlefield is renewed once a year, making it challenging to develop strategies.
In such situations, what's crucial is a wall role that can halt the enemy forces and an attack unit that can strike from a distance. Top guilds, composed mainly of advanced jobs with dozens of members, crafted intricate strategies.
They could set traps, lure enemies, and execute ambushes and encirclement plans in stealth operations. However, an increase in strategy means a rise in complexity of responses as well.
LOG has a player base consistently among the largest globally. Amidst this, only ten bases are fought over every month.
A few top guilds sometimes succeed in defense by bringing allied guilds, but usually, the attackers win. Even if there are two hundred defenders, a ten-thousand-strong attacking force isn't something you can argue against.
We fought numerous siege battles in such a harsh environment. As a minimum rule, only guilds within the top thousand in rankings could participate in siege battles, but it would have been nice if they made it at least within the top five hundred.
While reminiscing about such enjoyable game memories, I also pondered the structure of the base. However, the village was too weak. It was so weak that the word "retreat" came to mind. What is this paper-thin base?
Ultimately, we need to elevate individual capabilities. Teaching efficient leveling and skill usage and providing tactical education is the best option. The beastmen usually operate in groups of three to five, hunting in the forest.
They return to the village to report when they spot a threatening magical beast. This approach has resulted in fairly high individual abilities. However, that also means they heavily rely on physical prowess in their combat style.
「First, gather all the warriors for a basic skill seminar, and for the archers... oh, weapons. Oh right, they mostly only have handmade bows made from tree branches.」
The most skilled in the village, Mikel and Rolf, used metal bows they found by chance, but other archers made do with using beasts' tendons for stringing bows carved from promising branches, yielding arguable power.
Honestly, the beastmen's physical strength meant stone-throwing would be stronger. The only merit might be allowing the use of archer skills like stealth detection and Hawk's Eye.
「We need equipment and weapons... Isn't there anywhere to get them outside the forest?」
When I muttered this, Irinya, who was grinding herbs nearby, perked up in surprise.
「Eh, what? Are we going shopping?」
「Yes. The weapons are just too weak... but I guess it's not easy to leave the forest, right?」
「What do you think? Shall I inquire a bit?」
With that lighthearted approach, we searched for Mikel and Rolf. When we asked the beastmen remaining in the village, we quickly found out where they were. It turned out they were unusually heading upstream along a small river flowing through the forest.
「Weren't we told not to go where there are many magical beasts around the river?」
「Yes. Well, I'm sure those two will be fine though...」
With that conversation, we headed towards the river and found the pair surprisingly close to the village. For some reason, they were strolling while glaring at the ground.
「This is such a bother.」
「There's nothing around, is there?」
They sighed in unison, murmuring complaints. Seeing this, Irinya and I exchanged glances and tilted our heads in confusion.
「... What are you doing?」
When I asked, Mikel and Rolf jumped in surprise.
「Whoa!」
Despite having stealth detection, they were annoyingly relaxed. Watching the two stare at me, astonished, a reproachful gaze met mine.
「What are you two doing here!?」
「It's dangerous!」
They scolded.
「You two seemed quite at ease yourselves.」
When I pointed this out, they immediately fell silent. Apparently, they couldn't argue back.
「... We're looking for medicinal herbs. With so many injuries recently.」
「Medicinal herbs?」
I parroted Rolf's words back to him.
