Chapter 37

"Don’t go to the clinic in the east, even if you’re injured."

"Don’t provoke the stray dogs in the neighborhood."

"The woman living in Building 6 has a strong pair of kidneys—you might consider her."

"There's a lunatic on the rooftop of Building 4..."

"The back alley is chaotic..."

Li Ran firmly memorized all of Uncle Ge’s warnings.

"And also, in ten days... the Night of Madness!"

Just thinking about it filled Li Ran with a wave of despair and collapse.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

While he was pondering how to survive the monstrous carnival ten days later, gunshots suddenly rang out from the park ahead.

"Gunfire?"

Li Ran’s face changed as he looked in the direction of the shots.

“Squeak?”

Chitong darted from Li Ran’s pocket onto his shoulder, curiously gazing toward the park.

"Chitong, let’s go check it out."

“Squeak.”

...

...

"Y-You stay away from me!"

Xiao Yi, face full of terror, pulled the trigger again—another gunshot echoed.

His hunting rifle spat out a tongue of fire, the shot piercing through Chen Jiabin’s abdomen.

A bloody hole tore open in Chen Jiabin’s belly, and the blood pouring out was shockingly vivid.

His shoulders, abdomen, and legs were riddled with terrifying wounds—yet he showed no sign of pain, only a grotesque smile on his face.

Behind him stood the Cursed Demon Hound, obedient like a well-trained pet.

Bang!

Xiao Yi was pale as death. His escape skill had already been used, but he was still caught. His only hope was the hunting rifle in his hands.

The rifle was high-quality gear with a penetration effect, capable of ignoring armor.

This shot landed on Chen Jiabin’s already severed arm, and the force of the blast blew it clean off—blood sprayed everywhere.

Seeing this, Xiao Yi’s eyes lit up. Finally, he had managed to hurt the monster named Chen Jiabin.

But his expression quickly froze.

At the site of the severed limb, and at the point where the arm had been blown away, countless squirming tendrils began to grow—like wriggling parasites sprouting wildly.

The severed hand even crawled back across the ground, reattaching itself to Chen Jiabin’s body.

The tendrils connected the limb and arm once again, and the hand was reattached to his right arm as if nothing had happened.

Xiao Yi’s mind almost exploded seeing this.

"It’s over!" he muttered in despair.

Just then, Chen Jiabin turned into a blur of black and shot forward. Before Xiao Yi could react, a severed arm holding a gun flew past his eyes.

Xiao Yi froze, finding that the arm looked eerily familiar.

Instinctively, he looked down at his own right arm—there was now a gaping void, with blood gushing out like a fountain.

"AHH… AHHHHHH!!"

His face twisted as he let out several agonized screams.

"How does your severed arm feel?"

Chen Jiabin leaned in close, his eyes writhing with wormlike tendrils. His face was covered with black, centipede-like blood veins, like a demon possessed.

As he spoke, his left arm’s countless tendrils formed into a sharp blade that swung down once again.

Slash!

Another arm went flying.

Xiao Yi collapsed, trembling, his face pale as a ghost, sweat drenching his hair.

"Jiabin, I deserve to die, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have thrown you to the monsters… please… please spare me…"

Looking at the pathetic, dog-like Xiao Yi groveling at his feet, Chen Jiabin’s eyes flashed with disdain and cruelty. He picked him up with one hand and tossed him in front of the Cursed Demon Hound.

The hound’s gaping maw dripped with black slime. Seeing a human thrown before it, its hunger grew insatiable—it only awaited its master’s command to feast.

Xiao Yi nearly fainted from fear, using only the strength of his legs to squirm like a maggot back to Chen Jiabin’s feet.

"Please don’t kill me… I’ll give you anything you want—gear, eerie power, points—you can have it all!"

Chen Jiabin kicked him aside with disgust: "Relax. You won’t die that easily."

"I’ll make sure you beg to die… but can’t. Hahaha!"

With that, he slashed his blood-blade again.

"AHH! My leg!!" Xiao Yi screamed in agony.

Chen Jiabin laughed like a demon, tossing the severed leg to the demon hound: "This one’s a treat for you."

Xiao Yi watched in horror as the Cursed Demon Hound gnawed down both arms and a leg—an experience so torturous, he wished for death.

"Oh? Just now, were you thinking that if I let you live, you could go to the clinic and have them reattached?"

Chen Jiabin saw through Xiao Yi’s thoughts instantly. His face turned white as a sheet, his body trembling uncontrollably.

GAGH~

At that moment, the Cursed Demon Hound gagged and threw up a leg, then licked it and swallowed it back down.

That sight made Xiao Yi pass out on the spot.

He had a dream—in the dream, someone cut off all his limbs.

He woke up in terror, relieved it had only been a nightmare.

He tried to wipe the sweat from his forehead—then froze.

His hand… was gone.

And not just one. The other hand… and one of his legs…

It wasn’t a dream. The nightmare was real.

Then, the demonic face from his dream appeared right in front of him again.

He screamed in fright, almost fainting once more.

Chen Jiabin grinned fiendishly. His palm morphed into countless tendrils, forming a razor-sharp blood blade. He slowly brought it toward Xiao Yi’s chest.

"My little dog says your meat is as rotten as your heart. I don’t believe him—I want to dig it out and see for myself."

At this point, Xiao Yi had lost too much blood. His face was ghostly pale, and he could barely speak.

His heart was dead. He no longer wished to resist. He only wanted Chen Jiabin to end it all.

"Just kill me," Xiao Yi said weakly.

"Want to die?" Chen Jiabin retracted the blood blade.

Then turned, and slashed off Xiao Yi’s last remaining leg.

GURK!

Xiao Yi let out a stifled cry and coughed up a mouthful of blood.

He was now a limbless wreck, indistinguishable from a discarded corpse.

Even worse—he watched in despair as the demon hound devoured that last leg too.

He was utterly shattered—drowning in pain and despair.

"Hahaha. You think death comes that easily? I’m not done playing yet."

"I told you, I curse you to die without peace!"

"Hahahahaha!!"

Chen Jiabin laughed maniacally, his savage face like the devil himself.

"When there’s good food, don’t be greedy. Learn to share, understand?"

He patted the demon hound mockingly. The hound slowly raised its head and began howling into the sky.

Woof~ Woof woof!

Woof~ Woof woof!

...

Woof!

Woof woof!

Woof woof woof!!

...

Suddenly, the neighborhood echoed with replies—barks coming from all directions!

Before long, one by one, grotesque, rotting, mutated demon hounds emerged from every corner.

"N-No... no no no!"

"Jiabin… Jiabin, just kill me… take my heart… you want it, right? TAKE IT!!"

"Please… I beg you, make it quick!!"

Xiao Yi showed a fear and despair unlike anything before. He’d rather be stabbed through the heart than be fed to those dogs!

Chen Jiabin slowly stood up, a mocking expression on his face. He stepped aside and gave the command to the demon hound:

"Chew your food slowly. Anyone who smacks their lips—ends up like him!"

None of the demon hounds dared disobey.

Chen Jiabin nodded in satisfaction and issued the final command.

"My children—time to eat."

At his word, the pack lunged for their meal.

"AHHH… AHHHHHH!!!"

Agonized, bone-chilling screams echoed through the skies above the neighborhood.
