Handing out flyers wasn’t particularly difficult work.
After all, Lin Nan wasn’t a contracted employee of the supermarket. Whether the flyers attracted customers to the supermarket didn’t matter to him, so he didn’t need to waste breath explaining the flyer’s contents—he just needed to hand them out.
But in the summer heat, even someone in shorts and a T-shirt might find it unbearable to stand on the street for an hour or two in the afternoon. Yet Lin Nan was wearing a heavy, non-breathable mascot costume that gradually heated up under the sun.
Perhaps it was like a portable sauna?
He stood under the large sunshade by the traffic light, breathing heavily inside the costume while distributing flyers.
At first, he was willing to say a few words to attract pedestrians, but after a few minutes, finding that talking wasn’t very effective and only increased his physical burden, he simply kept his mouth shut and handed a flyer to everyone he saw. Whether they took it or not was their problem.
Perhaps out of courtesy, most pedestrians would accept the flyers, then discard them in trash bins on the other side of the crosswalk after crossing.
The supermarket had a requirement: if flyers were discarded, they should be retrieved if possible and given to other pedestrians. If Lin Nan were only doing this job for one day, he certainly wouldn’t care about such requirements, but he planned to come every weekend for the next two months.
“So hot...” Sweat had soaked nearly his entire body. The mascot costume probably hadn’t been washed, and there was a faint smell of sweat inside. Lin Nan couldn’t even care about the sweaty odor anymore, continuing to pant heavily with his eyes almost unable to open due to sweat, feeling itchy wherever the sweat flowed.
He felt a bit dizzy, his vision becoming blurry.
“Take off the head to rest for a while,” the traffic assistant suddenly said.
Lin Nan perked up slightly and looked at this male traffic assistant who appeared to be in his forties.
“Look, there’s a stone stump over there. Sit down and rest,” he said with a slightly unusual accent, not sounding like a local.
The “stone stump” he mentioned was actually the stone base of the sunshade umbrella. It wasn’t very large, but one could barely sit on it.
“I’ll hand out a few more,” Lin Nan said reluctantly. Had he already reached his limit in less than an hour? When he was a child, he used to play outdoors all summer, but he had never found the weather so unbearable then.
Even during military training in his freshman year, he had stood under the midday sun without any shade. Although he had tanned a few shades darker, he hadn’t experienced this kind of distress.
It must be Lilith’s fault again!
Lin Nan thought viciously. If Lilith were to appear before him right now, especially as a delicate young woman, he would certainly punch her first without hesitation.
The traffic assistant, while watching for people crossing against the red light, kept an eye on Lin Nan, whose body was swaying slightly. He remained concerned: “Rest a bit. Want me to help hand them out?”
Lin Nan was silent for a moment, then beamed with joy and immediately pushed the flyers into the traffic assistant’s hands.
The middle-aged traffic assistant was stunned. Though it wasn’t just a polite offer, Lin Nan had agreed too quickly!
Lin Nan hurriedly removed the head of the costume and immediately felt refreshed in the sweltering summer heat. Shaking his sweat-soaked hair and taking a deep breath, he suddenly felt carefree, as if his entire body had lightened considerably.
His cheeks were burning red. He removed half of the mascot suit, revealing his already soaked upper body, and retreated a few steps to sit on the stone base.
Breathing heavily, Lin Nan tugged at the collar of his shirt while looking around.
Five or six pedestrians waiting for the traffic light noticed him. The traffic assistant standing nearby kept his promise and immediately went forward to distribute flyers to those few pedestrians.
While in the costume, Lin Nan had already noticed that sweat had soaked his clothes, but now after taking off the costume, he realized it wasn’t just soaked—he had practically bathed in sweat.
Fortunately, his shirt was black, so even though it was drenched, it didn’t appear transparent. However, his already slightly visible chest area now looked even more prominent.
Afraid that pedestrians might notice something unusual, he quickly used the mascot suit to cover his chest.
After each person in this batch of pedestrians had taken a flyer, the traffic assistant walked to Lin Nan’s side and asked in a low voice, “Working while studying?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“You look like you’re still in high school?”
High school?
Lin Nan’s mouth twitched. If he were already in his twenties, being mistaken for a high schooler would be quite pleasing. The problem was that he had just come of age... At his current age, others would typically be in their senior year of high school or freshman year of college, so perhaps the man wasn’t wrong?
“I’m a sophomore in college,” Lin Nan said, moving his neck, which was sore from the mascot head, and thanking the traffic assistant. “Thanks, I’ll be fine after resting for two more minutes.”
The middle-aged man crossed his arms. It was a green light now, so he didn’t need to watch the pedestrians. Instead, he looked Lin Nan over and asked, “Judging by your clothes, your family isn’t struggling financially, right?”
“I want to buy a computer,” Lin Nan replied. Since the man was still helping him distribute flyers, Lin Nan had little wariness towards him and basically answered whatever he asked.
The middle-aged man didn’t ask sensitive questions, just making small talk: “Do you have a girlfriend yet?”
“Not yet.”
“You look too much like a girl, but don’t girls nowadays like your type?” The man said with a smile. “All the posters in my daughter’s room are of boys like you.”
Lin Nan thought he was probably referring to Korean pop stars. But from his perspective, although Korean stars often had overly delicate features, there was still a difference between them and his pure femininity. He was quite self-aware.
At the very least, girls generally didn’t like his type.
After chatting for a while, the sweat on his body gradually dried. With the breeze, Lin Nan felt a chill despite the hot weather. He stood up again, put on the mascot suit, wore the head, and transformed back into Kumamon.
“I’ll continue handing out flyers now,” Lin Nan said, taking the flyers from the man’s hand. Glancing at their thickness, he found that the previous hour of distribution hadn’t significantly reduced their stack.
Today he might have to distribute until seven or eight in the evening.
Distributing until seven or eight wasn’t a problem—this pedestrian street had plenty of places to sit and rest, so his legs could handle it. The issue was that the sun was becoming increasingly scorching, and he wasn’t sure if his body temperature could endure.
He realized that perhaps he shouldn’t wait in one place, or he might never finish distributing them all day.
“Hello, check out the supermarket specials,” Lin Nan walked into the sunlight, handing flyers to everyone within sight.
Walking while distributing was much more efficient, but he was sweating even more, and his already limited stamina was declining seriously.
In less than half an hour, Lin Nan became dizzy again. He quickly retreated into the shade, took off the head, and began to consider using magic to cheat; otherwise, he might actually faint from heatstroke.
Hmm, temperature regulation magic... Originally developed for combat in extreme environments, Lin Nan now thought it wouldn’t be bad for distributing flyers in the summer heat.
The unlock condition was being hugged by a male for twenty minutes?
This condition... Lin Nan initially wanted to look more carefully for similar spells, but thinking about it, in his current situation, fulfilling this condition didn’t seem difficult. The key was the twenty minutes.
