The night was quiet.
It was Saturday, and crisp birdsong chirped outside the window. Weak sunlight filtered through the black curtains, landing softly on Su Yun’s face.
She woke up.
Today marked the sixth day since they returned to their hometown—and also the sixth day since they had run away together.
Su Yun was still groggy, her eyes closed as she lingered on the dream she’d just had.
In the dream, she was holding a cotton candy—big, fluffy, and sweet. She kept biting it, licking it, and no matter how much she ate, it never seemed to run out.
With how huge it was, it probably wasn’t even cotton candy anymore—more like a whole wad of cotton.
Su Yun was immersed in the lingering sweetness. Ever since becoming a vampire, she could rarely enjoy sugary things anymore.
She wanted to go back to sleep and see if she could continue the dream.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fall back asleep.
Instead, a strange sense of urgency pushed her to wake up, as if she’d miss something if she stayed in bed any longer.
Eventually, Su Yun forced her eyes open.
In the dim light, she saw something black right in front of her.
It was Qin Xue’s black jacket.
She could still feel a soft sensation against her hands.
At first, that didn’t seem odd. But as Su Yun fully woke up and took in the scene before her—
“!”
Her eyes flew wide open. This close? Wait a second…
She lifted the blanket slightly to glance downward.
Her hands were completely buried in something soft.
“!?”
The shock nearly gave her a heart attack. She yanked her hands back immediately.
Was that what the dream was about? Then what had she done in reality while dreaming…?
She didn’t want to think about it.
“Mm…”
Because of her sudden movements, the bed shifted, and Qin Xue stirred slightly.
The girl let out a soft hum—one that was sweet and almost bewitching.
Still half-asleep, she instinctively tightened her arms around the soft thing in front of her.
And just like that, Su Yun—who had just escaped—was pulled right back in.
“Ugh…” She stiffened, nearly leaping out of bed.
Luckily, her hands were outside the blanket now, so no danger of further contact.
Wrapped in soft warmth and the faint scent of milk, Su Yun felt her face growing hot.
“Sister Xue?” she called softly, unsure why.
“…”
No reply. Clearly, Qin Xue was still fast asleep.
Her complete lack of awareness gave Su Yun dangerous thoughts.
Qin Xue hadn’t used to be like this.
But just now, Su Yun had tested something in her dream—and even if she did that, Qin Xue didn’t wake up.
Which meant—
Which meant she could get away with it.
And it wouldn’t even hurt Qin Xue physically. In fact, it might actually help her relieve some stress.
Su Yun cautiously lifted her gaze and stared at the peaceful, beautiful face beside her. She swallowed hard.
“Sister Xue?”
(Still no response.)
To be absolutely sure, she even reached out and poked her a few times—but still, nothing.
This isn’t my fault… You’re always so casual around me, not caring how I feel. You’ve already caused me to lose control twice…
Su Yun was just about to act, but then paused.
She remembered how Qin Xue, even while suffering from anemia, had insisted on staying by her side these past few days.
Despite how weak and dizzy she was, she never complained.
And here Su Yun was, about to…
A fierce struggle broke out inside her.
“…”
Anyway, she was a girl now. It probably didn’t count as anything bad, right?
Her head felt like it was burning.
From a male perspective, waking up like this in the morning would be called…
In the end, she did it.
Qin Xue never stirred. She slept deeply the entire time.
…
Afterward, Su Yun felt like a thief fleeing the scene.
She slipped out of the covers as quietly as she could.
As soon as she did, Qin Xue made a soft sound of protest—uncomfortable from losing the thing she’d been hugging.
“I’m sorry…”
Now fully awake, Su Yun sat off to the side, consumed with guilt.
She felt like she’d just committed some unforgivable crime.
She didn’t even dare look at Qin Xue.
Still feeling hot all over, she decided to step outside for a walk.
“Huh…” As she quietly opened the door, she noticed the door across the hall was also open.
She stepped inside and found the room completely empty.
It was eerily quiet. No sign of her parents.
From the faint sunlight, it still seemed pretty early—so why had they left so soon?
Su Yun went back to her room and checked her phone. It was only 9:30 AM.
Last night, her parents had mentioned hosting a banquet this evening for their relatives. They also planned to check on the progress of her ID verification that morning.
Su Yun knew that, but still…
They left without waking her?
Every other time they came back to their hometown, they’d always call her up for breakfast. And now—nothing.
She didn’t feel lonely, though.
Instead, she glanced quietly at Qin Xue, still sound asleep in bed.
“…Maybe I should let her sleep another hour or two.”
It was only 9:30, after all.
Another hour or two of sleep wouldn’t hurt. It might even help restore her spirit body.
With nothing to do at the moment, Su Yun picked up her phone to check for messages.
Nothing urgent.
Strangely, her phone still had over half its battery left—even though she hadn’t charged it in two days. Back at the dorms, it would die within a few hours.
Maybe because she hadn’t been using it much.
Opening her apps, she saw dozens of unread messages on both WeChat and QQ.
On WeChat, there was a note from her mom about breakfast on the table, a goodnight message from Xia Rou last night, and a couple of messages from Qin Yuanyuan—
“I hate you!”
“…?”
Su Yun stared at the message, baffled. It was sent at 2 AM.
(You’re up this late? You want me to tell your sister so she can spank you?)
She replied with mock threat.
Seeing no reply, she switched to QQ.
She hadn’t expected anything new—but was surprised to find over a dozen unread messages.
All from a fan—Zhang Deyi.
Zhang Deyi said he’d be discharged next week and wanted to bring her some health supplements, and maybe meet up.
Back at the hospital, Su Yun had thought he was joking.
But he’d sent a photo—it looked real.
He also mentioned that Liu Fei chipped in to thank her for her earlier advice.
Well, now she had no excuse. She had to accept it.
The supplements looked expensive, too.
Zhang Deyi also talked about upcoming exams and this week’s fitness test. Since Su Yun missed it, she’d have to make it up next week. What a pain…
Su Yun sighed and politely thanked him.
As for the fan’s messages, she hesitated to open them. She was afraid they’d contain more awkward questions.
Before tapping in, she made sure Qin Xue was still asleep.
Only then did she relax and open the chat.
Liu Fei’s Friend: Yun Bro, besides your current partner, is there anyone else you secretly like?
Liu Fei’s Friend: Some people say you're a player. I don’t believe it, but I wanted to ask just to be sure.
Liu Fei’s Friend: If you say no, I’ll defend you and tell them to shut up.
“???”
Just as she’d feared—another round of good news.
A player?
She didn’t even have time for that kind of thing! Who the heck was spreading these rumors? What if Qin Xue heard about it?
And if biting was really going to become a thing—
If she had a girlfriend as perfect as Qin Xue, why would she ever look at anyone else?
She quickly replied: No. Absolutely not.
She meant to exit the chat, but accidentally clicked on the person’s profile.
The QQ name was…
It looked oddly familiar.
Then it hit her—Qin Xue’s WeChat had the same strange username.
But Su Yun wasn’t shocked.
She had already added Qin Xue on QQ, so it clearly wasn’t her. Probably just a coincidence.
Still, why had Qin Xue picked such a weird name? The profile picture looked like it belonged to someone middle-aged. When she’d added her, she thought it was a senior!
With a brief internal sigh, Su Yun finally put her phone down.
The room was silent.
She quietly opened the wardrobe and pulled out a textbook.
This week had been hectic—she hadn’t had time to study at all.
Now she felt the pressure.
She grabbed a book on electronics, sat at the desk, and began reviewing.
Before starting, she glanced at the lumpy comforter on the bed.
The sun’s already up…
Still sleeping. Big ol’ pig.
She turned to her book and opened her phone to study alongside it.
While reading, she realized they had no plans for the afternoon.
Tomorrow they’d head back, so today was the last free day. Maybe she could take Qin Xue out for a walk nearby.
Qin Xue had seemed to really like it here—looking around with interest—but she hadn’t gone out much since learning the place wasn’t exactly safe.
But with Su Yun around, nothing would happen.
…
Elsewhere on campus that Saturday, student council president Shi Lezhi was busy with school-assigned duties.
A fire drill.
It was something he had to organize every semester.
They always picked a different dorm building to photograph and submit for the drill report.
Today’s pick happened to be a freshman girls’ dorm. That perked him up a little.
As he stood on the podium giving a speech, he casually scanned the crowd below.
After a few minutes, he wrapped things up and let the girls return to their rooms.
Normally, if he spotted someone cute, Shi Lezhi would head down right after and strike up a conversation.
That’s how he’d met several girls before.
And it had worked well every time.
But today… he stood frozen on the podium, not moving.
He had seen someone—one of the freshmen chatting with her roommate, smiling so beautifully it made his heart flutter.
But he had no desire to go talk to her.
He was too frustrated.
He, Shi Lezhi, had actually been defeated by a nobody—a bottom-rank student with no background.
How was that even possible…
